Epson, the No. 1 selling projector brand worldwide, has launched the 15,000-lumen EB-L1755UNL laser projector targeting the rental and staging market.
Tan May Lin, GM (Sales, Marketing and Customer Service division) of Epson Singapore said, “The projection landscape continues to evolve as new technologies and innovations become available. Today, projections are used as important communication tools, and industries are increasingly using projection in new applications, particularly for large venue installations. Specifically, the unique character of the rental and staging vertical has a huge potential growth for Epson as we launch more high lumens laser projectors.
"As a brand, we understand the emotional impact image quality has on projected visuals and we’ll continue to deliver next generation innovations to ensure that we meet the business needs of our customers.”
The new EB-L1755UNL is the most compact 15,000 lumens 3LCD laser projector in its class. It integrates inorganic 3LCD panels with an inorganic phosphor wheel to achieve superior light and heat resistance for outstanding image quality, reliability and durability.
With its laser light source, the EB-L1755UNL projector delivers bright colours for up to 20,000 hours of maintenance-free use, in WUXGA resolution. It also delivers 15,000 lumens of white and colour brightness.
Designed to operate 24x7, the EB-L1755UNL has improved dust resistance over older models and is ideal for applications requiring continuous projection, including events, storefronts, museums, digital signage and more. With a laser light source, the projectors reach maximum brightness in just under seven seconds.
The projector comes with an operating system that enables easy setup and control of geometry features for seamless projection, such as edge-blending, curve projection, corner wall projection, point correction, and quick cornering.
Features highlights include:
• 4K enhancement technology – viewers can experience intricate details. Pixel scaling technology shifts each pixel diagonally by 0.5 pixels to double the resolution to 3,840 x 2,160, surpassing Full HD quality.
• Auto image calibration – equipped with a built-in camera, the EB-L1755UNL is capable of calibrating and adjusting colour, uniformity and white balance automatically.

One-chip sequential colour projectors use a rotating colour wheel that spins at a rapid speed and displays colours sequentially. For some users, this results in images displaying colour breakup or a rainbow effect. Epson’s projectors use a three-chip, solid-state optical engine to deliver bright, true-to-life colour, without colour breakup or rainbow effects. In fact, colours are up to three times brighter and the colour gamut three times wider than leading competitive one-chip projectors.

Projectors compete with LCD displays in business scenarios
Epson Singapore, the No. 1 projector brand in the world for 16 consecutive years, believes that projectors are important communication tools that can be used to engage audiences in new ways. Toshimitsu Tanaka, MD, Epson Singapore and Southeast Asia said that projectors are ideal not only for basic communications, but also for digital signage and outdoor projection mapping.
“Epson pioneered the 3LCD technology in the 1980s. In 1989, we launched our first 3LCD projector, the VPJ-700. Since then, Epson continues its commitment to offering projectors that lead the world in technology, innovation and quality," he said.
Tanaka-san spoke of Epson's market leadership in projectors.
|
"Today, we continue to hold the dominant market leadership position as the leading projector brand for 16 years and running that takes care of the little details using the most innovative technology in the world. In Southeast Asia, our market share is at 37.7% as of FYQ117, according to FutureSource Consulting and we pride ourselves on bringing exceptional value to our customers.”
Tan talked about Epson's focus on details as a differentiating factor. It's in the Details is the tagline for the
new Epson pan-Asia B2B brand campaign. "To achieve enduring success we take pride in our attention to details and innovation. Details are what turns ideas, dreams and the future into reality," she said. "The proposition in our campaign (is that) innovation always works better when you are able to control the details. We're able to do that through our vertically integrated model."
|
In addition, the company said that innovation works best when attention is paid to the details. Tan May Lin, GM (Sales, Marketing and Customer Service division) of Epson Singapore said, “When it comes to developing new technologies and innovations, we believe that it’s our attention to detail that makes a fundamental difference and sets us apart from our competitors. These details come from listening to what our customers want from our products, and satisfying their needs by designing products that exceed their expectations.
"In terms of Epson’s projection innovation, every component in our projectors is created with the same obsessive attention to detail to ensure spectacular performance that will stun even the biggest crowd.”

Technologies from all three partners were part of the integrated solutions at Epson Town. The display onstage, seen behind the panelists, is from the world's brightest 3LCD laser projector, installed at the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre. The EB-L25000U laser projector is low-maintenance and capable of displaying images at 25,000 lumens.
|
Amy Kwa, Head of Department SEA, Visual Products Department, Epson Singapore said that projectors are very versatile display solutions as they can be used in almost any space. "You just have to find the right projector," she said.
She also pointed out that projectors can be used for digital signage and are able to turn any type of surface into a screen, so that physical signage - which is time-consuming to create and set up, and permanent - is no longer required. "The projections are distortion-free," she said. "It can be very immersive and transforms the whole event experience. You can (bring) your imagination to life. That's what the public wants today."
Projectors can also turn existing surfaces such as tables and walls into interactive touchscreens, which is ideal for students who have grown up with touch technology, she added. "(We have) cost-effective solutions for schools that want to look into an interactive experience. (They have) the flexibility and the scalability in terms of image size."
Reliability and durability are the two key customer requirements for projectors today, she added. One of Epson's value propositions is longer-lasting components with its laser projector family, so that lamps only need to be replaced after two years or 20,000 hours, whichever comes first. "Laser projector solutions are for end users who really want a projector that can save them the hassle," she said.

Epson built an entire town to showcase 3LCD and laser projection innovations that transform everyday life as part of the Epson Projection Conference & Showcase 2017, which was themed From Pixel to Physical. Delegates experienced live demonstrations of projector applications in areas such as education, corporate, home, retail, as well as public settings for businesses and consumers at Epson Town.
The Epson EB-696Ui, EB-695Wi and EB-W41 projectors were used at Epson Institute to create classroom scenarios.

A demonstration of a projected 65" screen to show how readable the text is at this size. The 4-6-8
rule is often used to define optimal viewing distance, ie the height of the display should be 4x the maximum distance from the display to the participants for analytical viewing, and 6x for basic viewing, said booth representative Brian. An 8x height is best for passive viewing, as in playing movies or videos. LCD panels conforming to the rule may not offer the same experience as a projection.

A visualiser device sends an image of two apples to two different projectors, a competitor's single-chip digital light processor (DLP) projector on the left, and to an Epson 3LCD projector on the right. Single-chip DLP projectors display a single primary colour at a time, resulting in less vibrant images, whereas 3LCD projectors display all the colours at once for up to 3x brighter colours. The stripe effect only shows up through the camera; in real life the colours for the image on the left merely looked duller.
|
Placing a projector on one side of a folding table allows students to crowd round and interact with the screen. Watch the Instavideo of the table being used as a tablet.
|
At Epson Institute, an academic setting, Epson showed how interactive ultra-short throw projector technology can accommodate larger screen sizes with more readable details. The interactive support means that the screen is effectively a large tablet.
A recent study in the US by Radius Global Market Research found that 58% of students in an average classroom are unable to read content displayed on a 70" flat panel display. While displays are limited by their size, projected images are not restricted to a specific size and can go up to as much as 100". In addition, students and teachers can interact together with such projectors using gestures or pens, without having to power up a PC.
Daniel Poh, Asia Sales Director, Extron Electronics Asia, said that his company is focused on user-friendly, robust and reliable products. The solution at Epson Institute makes use of Extron collaboration technology that connects up to 50 devices to ensure that students can collaborate. The collaboration platform controls all the devices and switches the image source from one device to another. Access is with a keycard for security. "Any cable that you plug into the teacher's laptop will (trigger a) switchover automatically," Poh said.
Joseph Mak, Sales Manager Asia Pacific, Milestone AV Technologies, said the Da-Lite IDEA projection screen at Epson Institute is ideal for educational use. It works as a conventional whiteboard problem that is erasable and magnetic, but unlike a whiteboard does not have "hotspots", or reflective areas, when it is used as a projection surface.
In the videoconferencing scenario, an Epson interactive projector is used with a Da-Lite screen as the projection surface. A Vaddio conferenceSHOT AV device in front of the booth representative transmits the video for videoconferencing. Both the screen and the device are from Epson partner Milestone AV Technologies. Watch the Instavideo at Epson Tower.
|
Interactive projection systems allow annotation on shared screens sent from other devices, like a laptop.
|
Epson Tower featured two offices videoconferencing each other. The interactive projection system, starring the Epson EB-1460Ui projector, acts as a smart collaboration platform for sharing and co-authoring with others, and supports screens shared from PCs and mobile devices. The scenario featured a 94" projection onto a Da-Lite IDEA screen that could be annotated. Up to 50 screens' worth of data can be saved, emailed or printed.
The EB-G7905U projector controls the signage projected onto a wall, including onto a 3D mug shape, while football games are projected onto another wall by the projector on the left, the EB-2265U. There is no need to dim the lights if the projector can display images with a high number of lumens. Watch the Instavideo of images being projected onto the mug shape.
|
Epson Cafe showcased new retail concepts to attract customers. Epson’s ultra-short throw projectors enable retailers to project a large screen within a compact area to create a specific ambience, and can project images on walls, ceilings and floors or 3D objects. Digital signage does not have to be reprinted and reinstalled, the booth representative said. The EB-G7905U mapped animated images onto a 3D surface for signage, and the EB-2265U was used for broadcasting football games.

Organised by Textile and Fashion Federation (TAFF), the event is the first fashion technology summit to be held in Singapore, and aims to promote the advancement in material innovation and showcase creative partnerships with the use of technology amongst Singapore fashion labels.
Singaporean labels Wai Yang, Pleatation and Ying The Label worked with Epson to create and print their collections digitally with Epson’s digital dye-sublimation textile printer and direct-to-garment printer. Each designer showcased six outfits as part of their collections at the event.

With this, founder/designer Wai aims to re-appropriate the inappropriate, breathing new life and meaning into otherwise unwanted objects, turning trash and defective objects such as torn cargo boxes, dead leaves, wire and bubble wrap into abstract print designs.
The designs are translated into subtle print effects on meticulously selected textiles via a combination of dye-sublimation, direct printing and textured screen-printing techniques, resulting in a highly tactile collection.
“Working to produce my collection with a digital textile printer for the first time was an eye-opening experience. The printer was able to reproduce my designs accurately, capturing the colours vividly. In the process of experimenting with the printing, I discovered that there are many different printing effects that can be achieved on different materials, and I love the fact that it is possible to play with many unusual materials as well. All my print designs are printed beautifully and would otherwise never have been used, adding a new dimension and richness to my designs and pieces,” said Wai.

Pleatation is a pleat-focused brand from Singapore, specialising in pleated products in fashion, stationery, home and lifestyle. Pleatation launched its Resort 1718 collection, Le Enchant, at the event. The printed collection consisting of vibrant hues in its signature pleated designs. Taking inspiration from enchanted forests around the world, Le Enchant captures beautiful shades and wild silhouettes in its latest collection, printed through dye-sublimation printing.
“When printing with Epson’s digital textile technology, I’ve noticed the colours captured are brighter and more vibrant. Digital textile printing enables quick turnaround and shortens the production process, which is important to my business as new designs and collections need to be created and brought to retail quickly. Epson’s dye-sublimation printing technology reproduces my designs vividly unlike other printing technologies I’ve worked with, and I’m glad for the opportunity for this collaboration,” said Chiang Xiaojun, founder of Pleatation. By breaking down basic silhouettes of essential products, she recreates new styles with the use of colour, print and textures.

“Printing with Epson’s digital textile printing technologies has opened new avenues of printing and design, in terms of textures and turnaround time to produce the collection. Experimenting with fabrics and seeing the colours of the printed fabric has been an amazing process. I am currently exploring avenues with Epson’s printing technologies to produce future collections,” said Li.
Li's art is created using abstract brush strokes dipped in whimsical colour palettes that can bring out the unique personality of every piece.
“The collaboration with the designers aims to showcase the versatility and capabilities of our digital textile printers and the opportunities it brings to the fashion industry. We aim to support the creative visions of designers to transform their ideas into reality. With our innovative printing technologies, designers are now free to express their creativity without limitations in colours and designs,” said Shuji Hamaguchi, Regional GM (SE Asia), Epson Singapore.
Digital printing shortens turnaround time and enables printing in small volumes for customised prints, compared to traditional printing techniques, which require high volumes and long lead times. As a result, digital printing helps designers to achieve their artistic vision by translating their ideas to a range of fabrics quickly, easily and in the highest quality.
Epson digital dye sublimation printers use Epson’s proprietary technology known as Micro Piezo and PrecisionCore TFP head technology. The Micro Piezo printheads, unlike thermal inkjet systems, eject droplets of ink via mechanical pressure and do not use heat, making it compatible with a far wider variety of inks and mediums. By precisely controlling the volume of ink contained in each droplet of ink, Epson’s Micro Piezo printers not only generate virtually no wasted ink, they also ensure that sharp, rich and virtually grain-free images are rendered at all times.

Epson Singapore sponsors limited edition prints for The Schooling Effect
Epson Singapore, a digital imaging and printing solutions provider, will be supporting The Schooling Effect movement, a community-based project inspired by Singapore Olympian Joseph Schooling’s win at the 2016 Olympic Games. The sponsorship is in line with Epson’s focus on youth development in corporate social responsibility.
As the official print sponsor, Epson is collaborating with home-grown photographers Alvin Toh and Tay Kay Chin to produce 20 limited edition prints from the photo book titled Hello, My Name is Joseph Schooling. The book showcases a series of never been published photographs, taken by Toh of Schooling, his friends and family as he embarked on the journey to the Games in Rio, and after his historic win. The initiative also developed a social media pledge, #TheSchoolingEffect, to inspire Singaporeans to reach for and realise their dreams.
The limited edition prints are produced with the Epson SureColor SC-P20070 large format printer. Launched in mid-2016, the SC-P20070 utilises advanced imaging technologies for the display graphics and fine art photography markets. The printer uses an 8,000-nozzle PrecisionCore MicroTFP print head, innovative media feeding system, and reformulated Epson UltraChrome PRO archival ink technology with four levels of grey. With ten individual PrecisionCore ‘blades’ for outstanding print speeds and extreme dot placement accuracy, the SC-P20070 provides very high print quality at a print speed of up to 17.5 m2/h. The prints are also printed on Epson’s Premium Luster 260g paper.
As part of the collaboration, an exhibition at Hugo Boss’ Ngee Ann City boutique will showcase eight of the prints till 23 November 2016.
“It is our pleasure to lend support to the sports and photography community through this initiative. We hope that through #TheSchoolingEffect, more youths will be inspired by Joseph’s determination and drive to pursue excellence in his passions, and likewise push the limits when it comes to realising their dreams,” said Tan May Lin, Epson Singapore’s General Manager (Sales, Marketing & Customer Service Division).
Epson will also be a supporting partner for a Christmas Tree initiative at Kallang Wave Mall, from mid-November to end-December. Members of the public can submit pledges to be hung on a Christmas tree, and donation proceeds will go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Tiansivarat, owner and designer of Thai brand Oh! Lala and Dee Project, debuted at Jakarta Fashion Week her ELEMENTS collection, consisting of 12 looks modelled by kids. The collection takes inspiration from nature and the natural elements of earth, water, wind and fire, and is evocative of the transformative and changing powers of nature.
Both the designers’ collections are printed by Epson’s digital textile printers, powered by PrecisionCore technology. “The collaboration with the designers showcases how Epson’s textile printing technology can help in translating the designers’ vision to reality. Epson’s PrecisionCore technology brings vivid colour reproduction, and can inspire designers in the creation of their design. With digital textile printing, designers are only limited by their imagination. Through our collaborations with local designers, we hope to support the fashion industry and create greater awareness of the possibilities of digital textile printing,” said Shuji Hamaguchi, GM (Southeast Asia), Professional Printing, Epson Singapore.
