UOB launches the UOB Art Space uniquely @ REGAL in Hong Kong

United Overseas Bank Hong Kong (UOB Hong Kong) has joined hands with Regal Hotels International to launch UOB Art Space uniquely @ REGAL at Regal Airport Hotel, Hong Kong as part of their partnership to promote art in the community.

Themed The Land. The People. The City, the inaugural exhibition at UOB Art Space uniquely @ REGAL showcases 29 artworks from the UOB Art Collection. The artworks, curated by Tony Scott, Director, China Art Projects, demonstrate a harmonious mix of cultures and landscapes in Asia through bustling city scenes. For example, Scripts of Selective Sympathies by past UOB Painting of the Year winner Anthony Chua captures urban construction and the birth of the modern city through a double representation of a street scene. The repetitive imagery creates a rhythmic effect reflective of the busy city life. Other artworks on display include those from Chinese painting master David Kwo Da Wei, and other UOB Painting of the Year winners including Quek Jing Cheng,  Boo Sze Yang and Baet Yeok Kuan.

Both UOB Hong Kong and Regal Hotels hold a shared vision to encourage the appreciation of art in the community and to provide an avenue for young artists to showcase their works through sustainable initiatives and programmes. UOB is a leading bank in Asia with a global network of more than 500 offices in 19 countries a nd territories in Asia Pacific, Europe and North America. UOB started its art collection in the early 1970s as a way of supporting local artists. The UOB Art Collection now holds more than 2,000 artworks, of which many are displayed at the bank’s branches and offices, as well as public art galleries.

Regal Hotels is one of the largest hotel operators in Hong Kong, currently managing 26 hotels with 9,500 rooms and around 100 restaurants and bars. As professional hoteliers, Regal Hotels embraces the spirit of artisans with diligence and professionalism in serving people from different cultures and from all walks of life. In recent years, Regal Hotels put the ideas into practice by engaging art events including its sponsorship of the UOB Golden Garden Installation Art Awards in 2015. They first collaborated in 2015, when UOB Hong Kong and Regal Hotels organised an exhibition at Regal Airport Hotel to feature the winning artworks from the UOB Golden Garden Installation Art Awards.

“Just as UOB has built an extensive network to serve and to connect our customers across Asia over the last few decades, we have been supporting the development of artists in the region through various community projects. In Hong Kong specifically, we launched the UOB Art Academy in April 2015 to make art more accessible to the community and to promote cross-cultural dialogue. This year, we are delighted to continue to work with Regal Hotels to showcase Asian art to people in Hong Kong and to travellers from around the world,” said Mrs Christine Ip, Chief Executive Officer of UOB Hong Kong.

Poman Lo, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Regal Hotels, said, “We believe the art exhibitions at the UOB Art Space uniquely @ REGAL will definitely become a point of attraction at Regal Hotels and enhance our guests’ experience as they view the display of Asian art.”

The exhibits at the UOB Art Space uniquely @ REGAL will be refreshed quarterly.

Wanda Reign Chengdu officially open

Reign Chengdu.
International luxury hotel group Wanda Hotels & Resorts has officially opened a new Wanda Reign hotel in Chengdu. Wanda Reign is the group's premium brand of luxury hotels, and the Chengdu property is its second Wanda Reign hotel, after Wanda Reign Wuhan, as well as the brand's first location in China's southwest region.

"It is with great pride that we bring the premium Wanda Reign label to Chengdu, a city steeped in history and culture, to present our most discerning domestic and international guests with the finest hospitality experience and revitalise the local hospitality industry," said Wanda Reign Chengdu General Manager Roger Marcz.

Wanda Reign Chengdu enjoys a prime central location in the city's business district, where South Renmin Road meets the Jinjiang River. Chengdu is also the starting point of the Southern Silk Road.

Elements of Chinese culture are woven through the hotel for a sense of place. Designed with a New Chinese Art Deco theme, the hotel incorporates local Shu motifs, such as the Chinese hibiscus, Sichuan-style trellis patterns, tassels and lanterns, into classic Art Deco. This attention to style extends to staff livery, which has been created by local designer and Paris Haute Couture Week alumnus Lawrence Xu.

The hotel comprises 240 rooms and suites, featuring the Bed of Reign in every room. The beds are equipped with Talalay latex mattresses handmade in the US and dressed in New Zealand wool, and complemented by the hotel's signature Dream Catcher services, which offer amenities such as aromatherapy, soothing music and bedtime reading materials. Most of the rooms also have massage chairs for the ultimate comfort.

All hotel rooms are equipped with an interactive TV, iPad room control system, smart lighting, an intelligent sensor-controlled bathroom and complimentary 1GB Wi-Fi access. Guests on the executive floor are offered personal care amenities from Hermès, while the Presidential Suite hosts guests in 330 sq m filled with handcrafted furnishings and fine art, including glazed porcelain, metallic sculptures and a hibiscus painting detailed in gold leaf.

ZHEN is the Chinese restaurant on the 5th floor serving refined Cantonese and local Sichuan cuisine. Customised Prosperity Feasts can be created upon request. The hotel's Sky Lobby is located on the 41st floor and enjoys a bird's eye view of the city as well as of the city's landmarks, Tianfu Square in the north and the Jinjiang River in the south. Café Reign, also on the 41st floor, is the highest restaurant in Chengdu, and offers all-day dining including seafood grills and aged steak.

Designed for its most elite clientele, the exclusive Club Reign delivers a customer service experience of comfort, privacy and unparalleled luxury. At Wanda Reign Chengdu, a range of private dining and recreational facilities have been especially designed for Club Reign members, including the RIVER DRUNK Huaiyang restaurant with four private dining rooms. The RIVER DRUNK, Chengdu's first Huaiyang restaurant in a luxury hotel, serves classic Huaiyang dishes with a touch of Sichuan influence. The restaurant's open terrace offers panoramic views of the city as well as attendants and private chef services.

The Galaxy Bar on the 7th floor features a private elevator, reception hall and networking lounge, making it a suitable venue for a corporate event or private party. The Universe KTV offers five rooms, each equipped with its own control system, professional-grade audio equipment and private dance floors.

For private parties or corporate functions, a grand ballroom and six private function rooms can be found on the 3rd floor. The grand ballroom offers 1,150 sq m of pillar-free space with a ceiling height of 8m, and is equipped with a 90 sq m high-definition LED screen as well as an elevator built for transporting vehicles and accommodating bulky equipment. The 7th Roxy Charity Car Wash was a resounding success. In May 2014, the management and staff at Roxy-Pacific & Grand Mercure Roxy Hotel ran a charity car wash at the hotel's driveway. Together with Tan Chuan Jin, Minister of Manpower and Member of Parliament for Marine Parade GRC, and the Marine Parade Citizens' Consultative Committee, S$113,000 was raised through this activity with the support from business associates and members of the public.

Together with sponsors, the car wash aims to raise funds for the recently-launched Roxy Foundation that will be distributed to NGOs, voluntary welfare organisations (VWOs) and schools.

The car wash will be held on 15 May from 10 am to 6 pm, with the goal of raising S$100,000 for the Roxy Foundation, which was set up in February 2015 by
Roxy-Pacific Holdings, a property and hospitality group and owner of the Grand Mercure Singapore Roxy. Roxy-Pacific Holdings will contribute S$60,000 for the event.

Lim Biow Chuan, MP for Mountbatten single member constitutency (SMC), is to be the Guest of Honour and will wash the car of the person with the highest donation, together with the Directors of Roxy Pacific Holdings and General Managers of Accor Singapore Hotels. Grand Mercure Roxy Singapore is managed by Accor.

Needy families, sponsors and VIPS will also be invited to the Children Are Our Hope For the Future 2015 dinner on 28 May 2015 that will also be hosted at the Grand Mercure Singapore Roxy, with Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong as guest of honour.

Up to 100 children from low income families living around the community will each receive S$300 from the money raised in the form of vouchers. Fifteen students from Nanyang Polytechnic will receive tuition fee grants of S$1,000 each that will go towards their tertiary education tuition fees.

“It is great to engage with the community and giving back by raising funds for the underprivileged through the annual charity drive here at Grand Mercure Singapore Roxy,” said Klaus Gottschalk, General Manager of Grand Mercure Singapore Roxy.

The car wash is mainly organised by Roxy Pacific Holdings, Grand Mercure Singapore Roxy and the Marine Parade Citizens Consultative Committee and supported by Accor Asia Pacific and five of its Singapore hotels - Novotel Singapore Clarke Quay, Ibis Singapore on Bencoolen, Ibis Singapore on Novena, Sofitel So Singapore and The Singapore Resort and Spa Sentosa.

The car wash is followed by the Roxy Charity Bazaar on 16 May. Approximately 20 vendors will donate new and pre-loved items to be sold at the Roxy Charity Bazaar, which will be open at the Grand Mercure Singapore Roxy from 10 am to 6 pm. A full 100% of the sales will go directly to the Roxy Foundation.

The organisers of the Bazaar hope to create awareness and encourage philanthropy by donating and selling items and also through the arts. Visitors will be able to buy one-of-a-kind art pieces and pottery owned by local potters, refurbished clothes, bags and accessories, jewellery as well as household items.

Local potter Mark Lee said, “It is heart-warming to see people come forward to support this Bazaar by donating items that are very dear to them.”
