Singtel gives 3G users more time to migrate to 4G or 5G

Singtel has been actively reaching out to its 3G customers to help them switch to 4G and 5G before the planned cessation of the 3G network from 31 July 2024, and has extended the grace period till November, said Anna Yip, Deputy CEO, CEO Business Development, Singtel Singapore.

"While the majority of Singtel’s customers have switched to 4G and 5G networks, Singtel will be retiring its 3G network progressively from November 2024 to give a small number of customers, comprising users on older mobile devices or SIM cards that cannot connect to newer 4G and 5G networks, more time to make the change," she said.

"Understanding the critical role that mobile devices play in everyone’s lives, Singtel has undertaken extensive measures to communicate the changes to the 3G network to customers via social media, roadshows as well as print and digital platforms. Singtel’s staff at its stores islandwide have also been assisting impacted customers through this change, providing additional support to the elderly and vulnerable.

"This includes helping them to navigate their new device to ensure that they can continue to use essential applications that support their day-to-day activities as well as have access to even more useful apps which offer better experiences and are more secure."

Yip shared that postpaid customers will remain on their existing price plans and are eligible for a free 5G SIM. "They can also choose a 5G device from Singtel’s range of affordable options that come with plans starting from as low as S$0," she said.

"For prepaid customers, there are also a wide variety of attractive 4G and 5G devices available with no contract."
