The marketing possibilities of a programmable wearable

Broadcast Wear has launched a touch-enabled programmable t-shirt, heralding new applications for marketing.

The Hyderabad-based company’s brainchild features a flexible, washable LED screen integrated into clothing that can be paired with the Broadcast Wear smartphone app to instantly display any text or design. The t shirt can be tapped once to switch the screen on, and then again to switch itself off.

The same t shirt could be used for different marketing campaigns, standing out well especially at night. “Broadcast Wear is the future of self-expression. It’s your digital canvas to communicate with the world. The microcontroller and Bluetooth chip in the programmable t-shirt connect wirelessly to your smartphone, so that the LEDs display anything you type,” said Broadcast Wear Founder Ayyappa Nagubandi.

Philips Luminous Patterns add panache to offices

Royal Philips, the lighting provider, has launched Luminous Patterns, a programmable connected LED lighting system that can help architects and designers create a striking visual statement using a unique combination of light, patterns and materials. 

Philips Luminous Patterns are decorative panels which consume little energy and are ideal for a wide range of interiors, including bars, restaurants, retail stores, hotels and office lobbies. Architects and designers can use them to create signature lighting design installations.

An entire installation could use approximately the same amount of energy as a traditional 60-watt bulb. Once installed, the system is controlled via a central control system. Each light point is controlled separately, meaning all of the points in a wall or ceiling can be programmed to create dynamic lighting effects.

“These embedded LED light patterns bring brilliance, warmth and sparkle into traditionally ‘mute’ architectural surfaces,” said Brad Koerner, Venture Manager Luminous Patterns at Philips Lighting. “Designers have until now felt that integrating lighting features in architectural surfaces have been difficult to specify, costly to manufacture, and risky to install. With Philips Luminous Patterns, designers can now embed innovative and eye-catching lighting features into their designs in a straightforward and cost-effective manner.”

The customisable light patterns are available in a broad range of lighting styles and textures that can be freely placed within custom-sized panels finished in a range of decorative coatings and in the graphic prints of choice. Customers can choose from four light effects: 3D Graphics (video), 2D Graphics (video), Round Sparkle (video), and Linear Sparkle (video). Production is based on a custom-order basis within the parameters of a standard configuration kit, enabling a simple and straightforward process from order to installation.

Regal Airport Hotel introduces LED wall in Grand Ballroom

Regal Airport Hotel has become the first airport hotel in Hong Kong to introduce a built-in high-definition LED wall measuring 9m x 4m in its Grand Ballroom, enabling enable event planners to develop stunning visual experiences for events and meetings.

Regal Airport Hotel is directly connected to the passenger terminal of Hong Kong International Airport by an enclosed link bridge, and close to the AsiaWorld-Expo convention Centre. It is 24 minutes from Central station via the Airport Express Line. The hotel provides state-of-the-art meeting and conference facilities, including Hong Kong's largest pillar-free ballroom in a hotel, which can accommodate up to 1,500 guests, and 30 function rooms.

Asus launches 4K display, portable LED projector

Consumer notebook vendor and motherboard maker Asus moved the goalposts at CES in the US last week with new products to meet content creation and mobile needs at higher performance points and improved price points. 

Bigger, better, and faster were the main messages around the product launch. Asus joins the 28", 4K*/ultra high definition (UHD) display bandwagon with the PB287Q. The display has been designed with a slim profile and supports a full range of swivel, tilt, pivot and height adjustments along with Splendid Plus video intelligence technology for viewer comfort.

With a native resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 pixels, the PB287Q displays four times as many pixels as the existing Full HD standard for increased detail. The Asus PB287Q also features 1ms response times for graphics.

Separately, Asus showcased the S1 Mobile LED Projector, which at 3cm (1.18 inches) tall and weighing 342g (0.75lbs) is designed to travel with mobile professionals. This portable projector has a built-in rechargeable battery that lasts for up to three hours on a single charge.

Despite its size, there have been no compromises with performance. The S1 Mobile LED Projector displays a 41-inch diagonal projection just 1m away from the screen, and powers on instantly.
