Samsung's 2021 monitors to arrive in Singapore this May

Samsung Electronics Singapore has announced that its new lineup of 2021 high-resolution monitors will be available from May. This year’s portfolio delivers life-like picture quality and enhanced convenience with advanced ergonomic design.

Samsung offers five high-resolution monitors across two series – the S8 and S6. All models deliver more than 1 billion colours and HDR 10. The displays feature colour vividness and clarity through a 178o wide viewing angle.

“Demand for monitors remain elevated as consumers continue to adopt hybrid work styles, spending time in both offices and at home. Our new high-resolution monitor lineup not only packs innovation to deliver visual details for higher quality viewing experiences, it features a streamlined and ecoconscious design to complement any desk setup.

"As we spend more time with screens, our latest monitor range also takes into consideration users’ eye health,” said Jacus Long, Director & Head, Display and Brand Memory Business, Samsung Electronics Singapore.

All monitors are Intelligent Eye Care-certified by TÜV Rheinland, the first in the industry to receive this recognition. Adaptive Picture eye care technology optimises picture quality for any viewing environment by automatically adjusting brightness and colour temperature in response to room conditions. This ensures the most comfortable viewing experience in any environment, reducing eye strain even after extended use.

The monitors also feature a special eye-saver mode to reduce blue light emissions which can cause eye strain, and protect the user’s eyes from any flickering on the screen.

The lineup is energy-efficient thanks to Eco Saving Plus technology, in addition to receiving the Swedish Confederation Of Professional Employees' (TCO's) display certification for next-gen sustainable products, the Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT) ecolabel certification for electronic products, and an Energy Star certification for energy-saving products. Eco Saving Plus technology reduces up to 10% of power consumption by adjusting the brightness of black sections automatically while maintaining bright and vivid picture quality.

S8 series

As the flagship model in the high-resolution monitor lineup, the S80UA provides Ultra-High Definition (UHD) resolution and is available in a 27" option. In addition to supporting UHD and over 1 billion colours, the S8 delivers a 99% sRGB colour gamut.

The S80UA is capable of 10 Gbps data transmission through its USB-C type port and specifically offers up to 90 W charging. Its connectivity features include USB 3.0 and a USB hub. The flat borderless design maximises comfort and minimises distractions while enabling near-seamless dual-monitor setups.

Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) mount compatibility and a height-adjustable stand (HAS) offers a variety of tilt, swivel, and pivot control points for positioning. The slim metal stand and narrow depth also take up less desk space for a cleaner, seamless work setup.

S6 series

The S6 series is available in 34-, 32-, 27- and 24" sizes, supporting not only QHD (2,560 x 1,440) resolution, but also PBP (picture by picture) and PIP (picture in picture) capabilities. The S60UA monitors not only support daisy chain technology, allowing extended multiple screen and screen reproduction, but also LAN cabling (RJ45), transforming the monitor into a docking station hub. Built-in Wake On Lan (WOL) functionality allows the connected computer to be powered-on remotely from another device.

The S65UA 34" monitor in Ultra-Wide Quad High-Definition (UWQHD) offers a 1000R curvature, further enhancing productivity with a 21:9 aspect ratio for optimal multitasking. The S6 series is also supported by customisable swivel, tilt, and rotation functionalit for the perfect viewing angle. Users can even rotate between portrait and landscape modes.

Details:

The S6OUA will be available in May, while the S65UA and S80UA will be available in July.

LG’s newest UltraWide Monitor features a 32:9 aspect ratio curved screen. With its cinematic scale, the 49" LG 49WL95 replaces a multiscreen setup for multitasking. A pixel count of 5,120 x 1,440 (equivalent to two 27" Quad High Definition displays side-by-side) and 108 pixels per inch (PPI) ensures optimal image clarity.

Utilising LG’s IPS technology, the latest UltraWide Monitor offers accurate colour reproduction covering 99% of the sRGB color space. With support for HDR10, this monitor is also capable of displaying HDR-enabled games and video.

The LG UltraWide Monitor also features a Picture-by-Picture (PBP) mode to view content from multiple sources side-by-side and work with multiple applications simultaneously. Dual Controller Software allows connection to several devices all controllable via a single keyboard and mouse, working seamlessly with PBP to improve workflow and increase efficiency.

With USB Type-C ports, users can transfer data and charge devices – even laptops – simultaneously. The monitor’s beautifully curved display heightens the viewer’s sense of immersion when watching movies and similar content while the clean, minimalist design and slim metal stand add an elegant touch.

Actxa Spur simplifies training in your heartrate zone

Actxa has released the Spur, an all-day activity tracker with continuous heart rate monitoring and heart rate zone indication markers. A convenient alternative to the traditional chest strap, the Spur intends to make training in the different heart rate zones accessible to everyone, not just athletes.

Fitness enthusiasts and professional athletes have, for decades, used their heart rate to determine the ideal intensity levels for their training. The more intense your workout, the higher your heart rate is.

The Spur measures resting heart rate with a built-in sensor at the wrist, and helps calculate and track Warm Up, Fat Burning, Cardio, Intense and Maximum heart rate zones, buzzing when the wearer has entered or exited each zone.

"It's great that many of us are walking 10,000 steps daily, but it's important to do it at a moderate intensity to improve our cardiovascular health," explains Joel Chin, CEO. "We also need to make sure our sessions aren't too intense on recovery days. With the Spur, you get the guidance and monitoring you wish for, to plan your training schedule, so your body gets both the workout and rest it needs for better health."

In addition to monitoring your heart rate, the Spur also tracks step count, caloric expenditure, active duration time and distance travelled. Personal goals can be set and tracked with the Actxa App. The Spur also monitors the quality of a wearer's sleep.

"We want to make fitness attainable for everyone. A healthy lifestyle isn't just for the technologically adept or the elite athlete with their fancy equipment. It needs to be accessible for the regular person on the street," said Chin.

The S$99 Spur is available in June 2017, and retails for S$99 online from Actxa, and at authorised retail partners.

Dell unveils enhanced PC portfolio for consumer, commercial audiences

· Dell Canvas is world’s first horizontal smart workspace of its kind with touch, totem and pen capabilities

· Precision All-in-One (AIO) provides outstanding sound

· Dell UltraSharp 32 Ultra HD 8K Monitor is world’s first 32" 8K display

· Dell Precision 7720 is Dell’s most powerful virtual reality (VR)-ready mobile workstation

· World’s first wireless charging 2-in-1 delivers the ultimate “no wires” experience

At the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in the US, Dell unveiled innovations that redefined personal computing. Dell also upgraded its line of XPS, Inspiron and Alienware consumer devices and the OptiPlex, Latitude and Precision commercial products have been upgraded with 7th Gen Intel Core processors, USB-C with Thunderbolt 3 connectivity options and updated professional graphics from NVIDIA and AMD. Dell's monitors have been refreshed as well. The new Dell PC portfolio features Windows 10 and 7th Gen Intel Core processors, helping users maximise productivity and creativity.

What began as the Dell smart desk concept in 2014 has evolved into the Dell Canvas—a new category of smart workspace technology that expands creative productivity for content developers and designers. The 27" QHD smart workspace can be used at an angle or laid flat on a desk to enable users to create and communicate as naturally as they would with pen and paper.

Through the use of touch, digital pen and hardware called 'totems', the Dell Canvas turns drawings into part of the digital workflow and enhances collaboration. Developed in partnership with Microsoft and powered by virtually any Windows 10 device, Dell Canvas plugs seamlessly into software solutions from partners including Adobe, Autodesk, AVID, Dassault Systems, SolidWorks and Microsoft.

The Dell Precision AIO is designed with audio-visual quality as a priority. Co-created with Jack Joseph Puig, the Grammy award-winning Producer and Director of creative innovation at Waves Audio, the new Precision AIO features built-in audio quality that previously required an external sound bar. With full frequency range high-fidelity audio built in, it delivers the best sound available in an AIO with 10 speakers pumping out sound at 50W per channel. The viewing experience is managed by a 4K Ultra HD (3,840 x 2,160) edge-to-edge touch display supporting 100% of the Adobe RGB colour gamut.

The Precision AIO delivers more performance options with Intel Xeon processors, AMD Radeon Pro graphics capable of powering VR and guaranteed compatibility with selected third party applications. The Precision AIO comes with ISV certifications for programs like AVID and SolidWorks, as well as leading security and manageability software.

As more VR headsets fly off the shelves, there is a huge opportunity—and demand—for VR content creators. Enter the Dell Precision 7720 mobile workstation—Dell’s first VR-ready mobile workstation designed specifically for VR content creation. This is Dell’s most powerful mobile workstation, thanks to the latest 7th Gen Intel Core and Intel Xeon processors and NVIDIA Pascal Quadro professional graphics. Dell says it has the most PC options in the market which support VR, including XPS, Alienware and Precision workstations that work with Oculus and HTC headsets.

The Dell UltraSharp 32 Ultra HD 8K Monitor is the world's first 32" 8K resolution display. It has more than 1 billion colours, 33.2 million pixels of resolution, 100% support of the Adobe RGB and sRGB colour gamut and an unprecedented 280 pixels per inch (ppi)—four times more content than Ultra HD 4K resolution and 16 times more content than Full HD.

Monitors offering this high-end resolution and Dell PremierColor clarity and gradation are important in commercial fields where in-depth image zooming is critical—such as photo and video editing, medicine and diagnostic research, and oil and gas exploration—all among the early adopters of this technology. The monitor's near-borderless display also gives users 32" inches of screen real estate in a highly compact package.

Additionally, Dell is announcing several new monitors with its new HDR feature³ to enhance the visual experience through a wider range of colours for exceptionally vivid images, higher clarity with visibly vibrant textures and increased contrast to capture a multitude of natural shades and hues. New monitors with the HDR feature include: the Dell 27 Ultrathin Monitor, with the world’s thinnest profile in its class, as well as the Dell 24 and 27 InfinityEdge Monitors, which also feature dual 6W external speakers professionally-tuned by Waves MaxxAudio.

Wireless connectivity has been widespread in notebooks for years, but there’s one wire that has always remained in the equation—the power cord. Dell will deliver a true wireless experience by incorporating WiTricity magnetic resonance wireless charging technology in the 12" Latitude 7285 2-in-1 that will be available later this year.

When combined with a charging mat and WiGig wireless dock, users can take the Latitude 2-in-1 with them without disengaging any wires or a physical dock. And when they return to their desk and set the 2-in-1 on the charging mat, it begins charging, automatically reconnects to the WiGig dock and content appears on the external display. More information about the Latitude 7285 2-in-1 and wireless charging will follow at Dell EMC World in May.

Dell has also updated the XPS 15, the smallest 15.6" laptop on the planet¹, with 7th Gen Intel Core processors, NVIDIA Pascal architecture - GeForce GTX 100 graphics and a fingerprint reader for password-free logins via Windows Hello.

Products built for business also feature 7th Gen Intel Core vPro and Xeon processors and new ultrathin notebook and 2-in-1 designs—reflecting customer demands for thin and light professional products that do not compromise on productivity, security and manageability. For example, Dell has introduced the Precision 5520, the world’s lightest 15" mobile workstation. New to the lineup are Latitude 7000 Series Ultrabooks and an award-winning 12" Latitude 5000 Series 2-in-1. The detachable 2-in-1 weighs under 1kg, and features an auto-deploy kickstand that has multiple connectivity options and extends up to 150 degrees for multiple viewing angles.

Dell has further redefined the desktop experience with the new OptiPlex 5250 AIO and an updated line of OptiPlex small and micro form factor desktops. These products provide full desktop performance and productivity in compact chassis that can be mounted behind corresponding displays with Dell's AIO stands or under a table to free up desk space.

New Dell monitors also include the Dell 24 Monitor for Video Conferencing, which features a 2-megapixel Full HD infrared (IR) camera with privacy shutter, noise-cancelling microphone and dual 5W speakers built in, and the Dell 24 Touch Monitor.

Rakesh Mandal, Director and GM, Client Solutions, South Asia & Korea, Dell, talked about Dell's commitment to deliver cutting-edge products designed based on insights gained from users.

Dell has announced a new wave of end-user computing solutions that address the diverse demands of mobile workers and professionals worldwide. The solutions bring the latest computing technologies within new sleek form factors reminiscent of Dell's consumer portfolio. In partnership with Microsoft and Intel, these systems ship with the new Windows 10 platform and 6th Generation Intel Core processors or the latest Intel Xeon processors for mobile workstations, enhancing the customer experience.

Dell has charted the changing norms in the workplace and tailored its new solutions accordingly. For example, 59% of employees have less office space compared to 10 years ago, and 50% of employees check email and take work-related calls after office hours.
Dell has charted the changing norms in the workplace and tailored its new solutions accordingly. For example, 59% of employees have less office space compared to 10 years ago, and 50% of employees check email and take work-related calls after office hours. According to Dell, the rapidly evolving workforce requires businesses to invest in technology that enables employees to work faster, make better decisions, and be more productive and collaborative.

“2015 has been an amazing year for us, so we wish to continue meeting our customers’ most pressing computing needs by bringing together industry-leading solutions to deliver powerful and beautifully-balanced products to our customers,” said Rakesh Mandal, General Manager, Client Solutions, South Asia and Korea, Dell.

Foong Chee Ngiam, Chief Marketing and Operations Officer, Microsoft Singapore elaborates, "Our goal at Microsoft is to empower every organisation and individual to do more and achieve more. With Windows 10, we are delivering a more personal computing experience across devices with new features while enabling mobility of experiences across devices. As of January this year, more than 76% of our enterprise customers are on active pilots of Windows 10, and we now have over 22 million devices running Windows 10 across enterprise and education customers globally. We are proud that together with Dell, we’re able to bring the familiarity of Windows together with top-notch computing solutions to businesses in Singapore to address the working demands of an ever evolving workplace.”

Mandal noted that addressing evolving user needs, ensuring future readiness, is a priority for Dell. Customer feedback and several workplace personas developed through research influence research and development efforts, he said. "Dell designs solutions based on user experience," he stated during his presentation.

Mandal's presentation included an introduction to five different workplace personas: desk-centric, corridor warrior, on-the-go pro, remote and purpose-built, and the four categories of computing solutions that address their needs.
Mandal's presentation included an introduction to five different workplace personas: desk-centric, corridor warrior, on-the-go pro, remote and purpose-built, and the four categories of computing solutions that address their needs. Desk-centric employees would be most productive with multiple large displays, and an efficient use of space for example, while corridor warriors require convenient, portable solutions that allow seamless transition between stations as they move around the office constantly.

Dell and Windows 10

Starting in 2013, Dell began collaborating with Microsoft to take advantage of key features offered within Windows 10. New devices are optimised for Windows 10 usage with Continuum, Office Mobile Apps and Microsoft Edge, which allows users to annotate web pages and share them. Windows 10’s built-in, enterprise-grade security also helps companies protect against modern cyber threats. In addition businesses can control the frequency of their updates and select the functionality that is right for different groups of employees.

“The concept of a future workforce is one that is taking place now. Every day, we see the transformation of teams that are more mobile and seamless – collaborating in a borderless, high-performing environment. Intel technology is critical to this evolution. Devices built with our partner Dell, which feature 6th Gen Intel Core processors, are purpose-built to deliver an impactful experience for business and pleasure with an optimal blend of mobility and performance,” said Sameer Tupaki, Head of Marketing, Intel Singapore and Malaysia.

Latitude: designed to impress

The Latitude 3000, 5000 and 7000 Series have been completely refreshed with thin and light designs, with excellent efficiency and powerful processing options. Dell took design cues from its XPS consumer line, resulting in the same sleek form factor and unique materials that deliver light weight and rigidity throughout the commercial lineup.

Liow Yee Fong, Client Solutions Director, Malaysia and Singapore, Dell, explained that Latitude and Vostro have different target audiences.
Liow Yee Fong, Client Solutions Director, Malaysia and Singapore, Dell, explained that Latitude and Vostro have different target audiences.  Latitude is the Dell branding for commercial notebooks for corporate accounts while the Vostro family is targeted at small businesses, home offices, or companies with 10 to 20 staff who may not need the trusted platform module (TPM) that is found in Latitude devices. The TPM offers hardware-based data protection.

The Vostro portfolio is suitable for both home and business use. The new Vostro 14 3000 Series (3459) laptop is powered by energy-efficient Intel processors with up to 6th Generation Core i7 performance to deliver up to nine hours of productivity for the mobile workforce*. It also features a scratch-resistant textured cover.

The new Vostro 14 5000 Series notebook (5459) is crafted in Era Grey anodised aluminum, and delivers up to nine hours of battery life. The Vostro 14 5000 Series notebook also comes with an easy-to-use and reliable security solution featuring a fingerprint reader and Windows 10 biometric recognition for commercial users.

Precision workstations offer more power

Redesigned to meet the needs of creative professionals and all rigorously tested to ensure compatibility with key software applications, the new mobile workstations combine thinner, lighter industrial designs and brilliant displays with the latest graphics technology, new processors and faster memory and storage. Significant updates have also been made to the entry line of Dell Precision tower solutions.

This portfolio offers configuration options such as the new 6th Generation Intel Core processors, first Intel Xeon processors for mobile workstations and future Intel Xeon processors E3-1200 product families. The latest professional graphics from AMD and NVIDIA deliver significant compute capacity and visual performance. New screen options include the first PremierColor 4k Ultra HD displays with 100% minimum Adobe RGB color gamut. Full HD and UHD options on its InfinityEdge display offers a virtually borderless screen to give a 15.6" viewing area in a relatively small form factor. Thunderbolt Type C is also supported for the mobile Precision family.

Huang Zhiwei, Business Development Manager, Client Solutions, Singapore Commercial, Dell, introduces the customised mounts for OptiPlex desktops.
Huang Zhiwei, Business Development Manager, Client Solutions, Singapore Commercial, Dell, introduces the customised mounts for OptiPlex desktops.

New OptiPlex desktops optimise the workplace

The fully revamped OptiPlex portfolio, said to be the world’s most secure and manageable commercial desktops, changes perceptions about the commercial desktop with smaller, faster and more energy-efficient micro form factor, small form factor, and mini tower designs. The refresh leverages Skylake* processors, having skipped Haswell and Broadwell models, said Huang Zhiwei, Business Development Manager, Client Solutions, Singapore Commercial, Dell.

Space savings are significant compared to previous models. The mini tower is 43% smaller than the previous generation while micro desktops can save more than 7,700 sq ft of workspace when replacing 10,000 legacy desktops. According to Huang, customers are mounting the micro form factor systems behind monitors to create 'pseudo all in ones'.

The updated portfolio leverages a new 3000/5000/7000 model numbering structure to simplify product comparison and selection for customers, and includes:

OptiPlex 7040: a compact enterprise-class desktop with premium management and security and extensive expandability, including discrete graphics, dual hard drives and triple display support

The Dell UltraSharp 30 Ultra HD 4K OLED monitor is Dell’s first OLED monitor, bringing the advantages of OLED display technology to PC professionals working in colour-critical environments such as graphic arts and photography. The monitor delivers a cutting-edge typical contrast ratio of 400,000:1 that delivers “true black”, coverage of industry colour spaces such as AdobeRGB and DCI-P3, detailed Ultra HD 4K resolution and an ultra-fast response time of 0.1 ms.

Viktor Petrasek, Product Marketing Manager, Dell Displays, Asia, Pacific and Japan, said the UltraSharp 30 will be available in May 2016 in Singapore for S$6,999. "(We want to) take a very premium technology and try to drive it into a market where it hasn't been before in terms of the price band and the quality," he said.

The Dell UltraSharp InfinityEdge monitors feature the world’s first InfinityEdge displays with ultra-thin borders on all sides. Designed with a complementary arm that offers greater adjustment flexibility and integrated cable management, this recipient of 2016 CES Awards in Innovation and Eco-Design helps maximise available workspace. Both the 27" Quad HD and 23.8" Full HD monitors offer premium screen performance, colour precision and connectivity. "We're supporting the productivity story and giving you a more engaging experience with the screen," Petrasek said.

The Dell UltraSharp 24 Wireless monitor allows users to wirelessly display and manage content from a Windows-powered laptop and Android smartphone concurrently via Miracast. Once connected, the phone can be controlled with an attached keyboard or mouse. Petrasek disclosed that the monitor will be available in the APJ region this April.

Dell offers an ecosystem of accessories to complete the working experience. The recently announced Dell Dock and the Dell Thunderbolt Dock offer commercial users the opportunity to effectively integrate displays, mice and external keyboards. Both new docks are equipped with the next generation USB Type-C ports which support USB, DP, Thunderbolt and power through a single cable in a slim form factor.

As part of Dell’s end-to-end solutions for business customers, the new H-Series and S-Series multifunction printers are designed to meet the online collaboration needs of businesses of all sizes.
With 64% of workers performing at least some of their work tasks at home and half of desktop users incorporating other devices as well, it has become necessary for offices to offer complete printer connectivity.

The new H-Series printers (models H625cdw, H825cdw, and H815dw), also termed cloud printers, support the Dell Document Hub app, which gives customers access to multiple cloud storage services at the same time, such as Dropbox, Box, Google Drive, Salesforce and Evernote, for easy sharing and printing. The printers provide direct access to the Document Hub from the printer or PC for office-based employees, while remote employees can access it as an app on their mobile device or PC.  Ideal for smaller organisations and executive offices, the printers provide easy Wi-Fi setup by SMBs and micro-businesses with limited or no IT teams.
