Food&HotelAsia bigger and better in 2016

Ting Siew Mui, Project Director, Lifestyle Events, Singapore Exhibition Services.
Ting speaks at a media preview for FHA.
Food&HotelAsia (FHA), Asia’s largest and most comprehensive food and hospitality trade exhibition and conference event, is coming close to its 40th year of meeting the demands of Asia’s food and hospitality industry.

Since its debut in 1978, FHA has seen international companies make up over 80% of its exhibitor list, reinforcing the globalisation of the event. FHA offers innovative products, technologies and solutions available in the global marketplace, and is conceptualised as a quality platform for trade buyers and sellers to converge, network and do business.

Today, FHA encompasses FoodAsia, Bakery&Pastry, HotelAsia, HospitalityTechnology, HospitalityStyleAsia and SpecialityCoffee&Tea. The inaugural edition of ProWine ASIA 2016, the newest addition to the established ProWein series, will be held alongside FHA2016.

FHA will occupy all 10 halls of the Singapore Expo. For the first time FHA is also extending its exhibition to a tent outside the halls to accommodate a surge in demand for more booths in FoodAsia. About 3,300 exhibitors from 70 countries and regions will be housed in 103,000 sq m of exhibition space.

Ting Siew Mui, Project Director, Lifestyle Events, Singapore Exhibition Services, noted that exhibition space for the show, held every two years, had already been sold out "months before". tis considered significant enough for products to be launched, and hosts many regional industry leaders. This year will see more than 900 new exhibitors, as well as first-time country pavilions for Hungary, Morocco, Poland and Algeria for a total of 59 international group pavilions.

Chinatown Food Corporation will be introducing frozen pumpkin balls, glutinous rice balls (tangyuan) with salted egg yolk lava, and sesame balls with salted egg yolk lava filling.
Chinatown Food Corporation will be introducing frozen pumpkin balls, glutinous rice balls (tangyuan, a traditional Chinese dessert) with salted egg yolk lava, and sesame balls with salted egg yolk lava filling, All three have no preservatives. Chinatown Food Corporation is the first manufacturer in Singapore to develop salted egg yolk flavoured glutinous rice balls and sesame balls. Manufactured frozen to the highest quality and standards, the products add a new twist to the traditional Chinese dessert. The frozen Sesame Ball (Salted Egg Yolk) product is 100% fresh-frozen, not pre-fried nor precooked. After frying, the sesame balls are able to achieve a similar quality compared to freshly made sesame balls after frying. Freshly prepared lava sesame balls have warm crisp sesame seeds on the outside, and rich, sweet yet salty explosion of salted egg yolk flowing out from the inside. The lava glutinous rice balls contain a different formulation of salted egg yolk filling.

A first for the showfloor will be the Halal Supermarket, which is part of FoodAsia. Ting said that delegates will be able to source for halal-certified ingredients and supplies at the area as well as learn more about halal certification. Self-guided trails, to be introduced for the first time on various themes of interest, will include one for halal food & beverages this year to include exhibitors whose products are halal certified but which not be in the Halal Supermarket.

Bakery products specialist BHF will showcase frozen baked goods for bread and puffs at FoodAsia.
Bakery products specialist BHF's Simon Tay says that rather than vie for attention in the first-ever Halal Supermarket at the event, the company will showcase products at their own FoodAsia booth, relying on the trails to bring traffic interested in halal foods. This allows the full range of BHF products to be seen at their best against the full complement of advanced equipment that will be installed at the booth. BHF is halal, ISO 2200 and HACCP-certified, and more than doubled its volume of production in 2014 after automating processes. It also invested in blast freezing technology, which retains the moisture of baked goods and reduces the likelihood of contamination.

Other self-guided trails have been compiled for dairy, gelato/ice cream, health & organic products, hospitality essentials, meat & poultry, packaging equipment, productivity boosters, and seafood.
