Angela Cortez, the soprano, will sing Chinatown by Singapore composer Tan Yu Ting in the New Music From A Mythic Landscape concert at the second Singapore International Festival of Music (SIFOM), Singapore’s first classical music festival. Inspired by Singapore’s landscape, the concert is on 19 October at the Arts House chamber at 7.30pm.

The Filipina was the first prize winner of the 2015 NAFA Voice Competition. She is an active performer in Southeast Asia, and has also performed in concerts in Europe, Taiwan, and the US. Her recent operatic roles include Calisto in Offenbach's Daphnis et Chloe (2016), Denise in Offenbach's Le Mariage aux Lanternes (2016), Hansel in Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel (2015), and the Doll in Bellepoque’s Musical Fables and George and the Music Box (2015).

She has also performed concerts and tours as soloist with the ADDO Chamber Orchestra, International Chamber Festival Orchestra and Halleujah Oratorio Society, and the NAFA Wind and Jazz Ensembles.

SIFOM 2016, presented by SIFOM in collaboration with Arts House and OperaViva, runs from 13 to 30 October with Grammy-nominee Maestro Darrell Ang wielding the baton over guest members of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and the SIFOM Orchestra. The event has three components:
