Sustainable red packets a trend for 2020?

Singtel’s red packet (hongbao) design for 2020 is all about sustainability. The company has decided to go with zero-tree paper.

The packets, traditionally made of paper, are made from sugarcane stalks which have had the juice extracted.

There are two designs. One features the character 欣, which means 'happiness and prosperity', while the other has a Chinese couplet, 竞发无极添新彩, 欣荣丰盛增辉煌. This means 'delight, happiness, progress with superior competitive advantage, bursting with exciting changes and new opportunities'.

UOB has also announced a sustainable hongbao. The bank's hongbao this year are zodiac-inspired, and environmentally-friendly, with auspicious dimensions.
