Self-cleaning robot vacuum maintains itself

Source: Roborock. The S8 Pro Ultra.
Roborock, which specialises in the research, development, and production of robotic cleaners and other cleaning appliances, has launched the Roborock S8 Series. The series features Roborock's strongest suction ever, at 6,000 Pa, while a newly introduced dual rubber roller brush improves dirt pickup.

The top of the line S8 Pro Ultra is designed for hands-free cleaning. It features the brand’s all-new RockDock Ultra system, which takes care of maintenance.

Self-Refilling refills the robot water tank during cleanup for a maximum mopping range of over 300 sq m. The system automatically washes the mop after use, while Self-Cleaning cleans the bottom of the dock. A Self-Drying feature dries the washed mop and the bottom of the dock with warm air, preventing mould growth and unpleasant odours. Self-Emptying automatically empties dust and dirt after each cleanup, allowing for up to 7 weeks without the need to change a dust bag. The dual brushes clean themselves as well.

The brush on the S8 Pro Ultra is automatically lifted up to 6 mm in the mop-only mode and when the robot vacuum returns to the dock, preventing cross-contamination in both instances. This liftable brush also allows users to mop up spills without damaging the robot vacuum.

The mop automatically lifts when cleaning on carpets with the VibraRise 2.0 Mopping System, and scrubs floors with sonic mopping technology at a frequency of 3,000 times per minute. The S8 Pro Ultra sports two vibration modules compared to the original mopping system for better efficiency.

Details

The Roborock S8 Pro Ultra is available in Singapore at S$1769.90 via the brand’s official store on Shopee and Lazada. There are two other models, the Roborock S8+ and the Roborock S8.

Philips SpeedPro Max cordless vacuum cleans in every direction

Source: Philips. The new SpeedPro Max vacuum.
The new Philips SpeedPro Max sports a 360o suction nozzle that is engineered to capture more dust and dirt faster. According to Philips it delivers the fastest* cordless cleaning experience with every stroke, even backwards. Current vacuum cleaning technology cleans solely with forward movements.

The 360o nozzle ensures exceptional cleaning performance in every direction, even along walls and furniture. The PowerBlade Digital motor handles airflow of more than 1,000 l/min at the nozzle, enabling 360o suction. A 25.2V lithium ion battery serves up to 65 minutes of cordless cleaning power for a range of surfaces.

There are three speed settings to tackle different types of dirt, ranging from fine dust, fluff and hair to bigger particles like crumbs. A three-stage advanced hygiene filtration captures up to 99% of fine dust, bacteria and allergens**.

Further enabling the cleaning power of the nozzle is PowerCyclone 8 – the cyclone technology from Philips bagless vacuum cleaners – which ensures efficient dust and air separation in three steps. The LED nozzle further reveals dust in hard-to-reach spots.

Integrated accessories include a mini turbo brush and an integrated brush head.

Details:

Philips SpeedPro Max is available in two models, the Philips SpeedPro Max FC6823/61, recommended retail price (RRP) S$699 and the Philips SpeedPro Max FC6813/61, RRP S$549. They are available at Philips and leading electronics stores, major department stores and selected authorised dealers.

Dyson launches cordless Cyclone V10 vacuum

• The Dyson Cyclone V10 cord-free vacuum is Dyson’s latest stick vacuum1.

• The Dyson digital motor V10 is smaller and lighter – yet has 20%2 more suction power than the Dyson V8 cord-free vacuum.

Dyson has unveiled the Dyson Cyclone V10 cord-free vacuum cleaner, which delivers more powerful suction than the typical "stick" vacuum.

Key is the new Dyson digital motor V10, which is almost half the weight of its predecessor, the Dyson digital motor V8. This is Dyson’s fastest and most power-dense digital vacuum motor – spinning at up to 125,000 rpm. Compared to Dyson’s first generation motor, the Dyson digital motor V2, the Dyson digital motor V10’s power to weight ratio has increased over three times.

Sir James Dyson, inventor, industrial designer and founder of Dyson said: "A strong performing machine starts with an efficient motor. The Dyson digital motor V10 is Dyson’s most advanced. It’s what enabled us to entirely change the format of a vacuum cleaner, to achieve Dyson’s best ever cord-free machine performance...It is the reason why I’ve stopped developing full-size vacuums."

The Dyson digital motor V10 is intelligent and continually adjusts to maintain maximum performance: it knows its altitude, the barometric pressure, temperature and could even work out the weather. It can even tell the difference between the table and the floor. It uses this information to make minute adjustments to deliver constant performance at different air pressures. It will give the same performance whether it is used in a high-altitude city - Kabul, Afghanistan is at 1807m, or a city at sea level such as Jakarta, Indonesia, elevation of 3m. Traditionally, vacuums work better at lower altitudes, where the air is denser than at higher altitudes.

According to Dyson other cyclonic vacuums can be relatively inefficient when separating dust and dirt from the airflow. Dust and dirt end up on the filter where airflow is choked, affecting suction strength. In contrast, the Dyson Cyclone V10 cord-free vacuum delivers constant suction performance3. Fourteen cyclones are precisely arranged around the central axis of the machine, enabling the airflow inside each cyclone to travel at up to 193kmh. This mechanism separates microscopic dust from the air efficiently.

Filtration

Dyson says the typical vacuum cleaner can expel dust, allergens and bacteria into the air as it works. Dyson engineers have improved whole-machine filtration on the V10, capturing 99.97% of allergens as small as 0.3 microns4 – releasing cleaner air.

Energy storage system

Dyson engineers wanted to deliver enough power to the fast-spinning Dyson digital motor V10, while also extending the runtime. They engineered a more energy-dense battery, without any additional weight. Along with improved electronics and battery system management, it gives the new Dyson Cyclone V10 cord-free vacuum up to 60 minutes5 of suction.

Cleaner heads

The direct-drive cleaner head has a powerful motor located inside the brush bar. This drives stiff nylon bristles deep into carpet pile to remove ground-in dirt. Soft antistatic carbon fibre filaments remove fine dust from hard floors.

The soft-roller cleaner head removes large debris and fine dust from hard floors simultaneously. A larger roller covered in soft woven nylon traps large debris, whilst anti-static carbon fibre filaments remove fine dust. A direct-drive motor sits within the roller, allowing fullwidth, edge to edge cleaning.

To manufacture this motor Dyson engineers developed new and fully-automated manufacturing processes at Dyson’s manufacturing plants in Singapore and the Philippines. Three hundred autonomous robots assemble the Dyson digital motors across six lines. Equipped with 3D vision, the robots can see and interpret what is happening in the production line and intelligently wire the motor in just 12 seconds, while also checking the quality.

Details:

The Dyson Cyclone V10 is available on shop.dyson.com.sg and major departmental and electrical stores.

1 Suction tested to bin full according to standard IEC 62885-2.

2 Compared to the Dyson V8 Absolute.

3 Suction tested to bin full according to standard IEC 62885-2, clause no. 5.8 and 5.9. Tested in max mode.

4 Tested to ASTM F1977-4, in max mode.

5 Max runtime in suction mode 1 with non-motorised tool attached.

Philips shares tips for a healthier heart, introduces new product innovations

· Chronic illnesses are on the rise, and cardiovascular disease is the top cause of death globally1. In Singapore, nearly one out of three deaths is due to heart disease or stroke2.

· Healthy homemade food boosts heart health and brings people together, while good oral health habits can lower risk of heart disease

· Philips’ product innovations empower consumers to take control of their own health

Royal Philips, a global leader in health technology and partner of the World Heart Federation, celebrated World Heart Day on 29 September in Singapore, by bringing awareness to cardiovascular diseases and collaborating with industry experts – a chef, a nutritionist from the Singapore Heart Foundation and a dentist – to bring into focus the everyday issues faced by consumers that are hindering them from being healthy.

In Asia, megatrends such as an ageing population and sedentary lifestyles are leading to chronic illnesses like cardiovascular disease. In fact, nearly 1 out of 3 deaths in Singapore is due to heart disease or stroke2. However, simple changes such as eating healthier food, ensuring good oral care habits and taking ownership of our own health can help reduce the risk of developing heart disease.

“Taking control of our health is a daily choice, whether it’s consuming healthy food and drinks or building good oral care habits. To help make this daily decision simpler, Philips’ breakthrough product innovations empower consumers to make healthier choices more often and enjoy the longer-term health benefits of good eating and brushing habits, such as reduced risk of obesity and heart disease,” said Matt Moran, GM, Personal Health, Philips ASEAN Pacific.

In Singapore, a love of local food, coupled with the pressures of urban life, mean that consumers often struggle to prepare meals that are healthy yet tasty. To bridge this gap Philips partnered with Angela May, culinary host, chef and restaurant owner, to produce recipes inspired by giving local food a healthy twist.

“Food and healthy living are two things I am passionate about, so it made sense to combine the two into heart-healthy versions of local dishes. People generally have a misconception that healthy food is not tasty. However innovations in technology have made it possible to prepare great tasting meals in an easy and convenient way. I hope these recipes will make it easier for Singaporeans to eat healthier without compromising on delicious local fare,” said May, Culinary Host and Consultant, Chef-Owner of Ange Cafe @ Glasshouse Robinsons The Heeren.

Not many know that oral healthcare can also have an impact on heart health. Severe gum disease can lead to increased risk of stroke and heart attack – one study found that people with severe gum disease reported 40% more chronic conditions such as liver disease, coronary heart disease and even congestive heart failure than those without3.

"Good oral health habits can impact more than just your smile. It's clear that oral care is linked to overall wellbeing, and is a key part of caring for your personal health. I hope that with proper guidance and education, Singaporeans will have better health by taking better care of their teeth, gums and tongue functions, starting at home," said Dr Yue Weng Cheu, Clinical Director of DP Dental and The Linguadontics Clinic.

Philips’ suite of products is designed to make it convenient and sustainable for consumers to stay empowered in their personal health journey, narrowing the gap between professional and personal healthcare. This World Heart Day, Philips is presenting several new innovations to accomplish just that.

A heart-healthy diet may reduce the risk of someone developing heart disease or having a stroke by 80%7. Philips' tips for heart health include:

- Try to restrict your intake of salt and sugar by not adding them to food unless necessary.

- Daily fat intake should not exceed 30% of the total daily energy intake according to the World Health Organization.

- Avoid fast food and other processed foods that are high in saturated fats.

- Prepare homemade food as it gives control over the ingredients used.

- Use an appliance such as the Philips Airfryer to reduce your fat intake – it helps you to prepare tasty, healthier food at home, with little to no oil.

- Include plenty of fruit and vegetables, nuts, whole grains, lean meat, and fish.
