Savvy tips for road trips from Kurnia Insurans

Deepavali, also known as the Festival of Lights, marks a long weekend in Singapore and Malaysia, when road trips come to the fore. Ensuring a safe, secure, and splendid trip is paramount, and this is when it’s imperative to remember that the journey is just as crucial as the destination itself, says Kurnia Insurans.

Some tips from Kurnia Insurans include:

The pre-trip vehicle check-up

● Ensure that your brakes and battery are not just functioning, but in good condition.

● Double-check the condition of your tyres and make sure all your lights are shining brightly.

● Before embarking on extensive journeys, a professional vehicle inspection can set the stage for a flawless trip.

Stay vigilant and take breaks

● Strategically plan ample rest stops, particularly for lengthy drives, to ward off drowsiness.

● Stock up on water and wholesome snacks, keeping energy levels high and attention focused.

● Engage with passengers, allowing them to play a role in navigation, or use audio to create a harmonious journey.

Mind the weather

● Get the latest weather updates, and be monsoon-ready in particular.

● In torrential downpours, reduce your speed, increase your following distance, and use your headlights for additional illumination.

● For those sunny spells, sunglasses are your best friend, protecting your eyes while ensuring clear and comfortable vision.

Safe driving practices

● Channel your attention to the road; resist the urge to attend to your mobile phone. If you do have to do so, check it at a safe stop.

● Be vigilant about traffic signs, signals, and road markings.

● Stick to your lane and be mindful of your speed, ensuring a smooth flow and reducing the risk of accidents.

Your emergency kit

Driving in Singapore more dangerous than you may think: ValueChampion

Although Singapore has among the lowest road mortality rates per capita in the world, ValueChampion says that it is actually more dangerous to drive in Singapore than many other well-developed countries. In a blog post updating research from 2017, Anastassia Evlanova, Senior Research Analyst at ValueChampion Singapore notes that there were 12.13 fatalities per 100,000 motor vehicles in 2019, higher than the rate in Japan or Australia.

"(The) per capita basis for measuring road safety paints a misleading picture of how safe it actually is to travel by car in Singapore. Instead, driving Singaporeans should consider the number of car accidents and fatalities per vehicle to be a more accurate reflection of road safety," she said.

According to Evlanova, road mortality rates per capita are typically similar to fatilities per 100,000 motor vehicles in countries where car ownership is high, whereas fewer households in Singapore own a car. When the majority of Singapore residents rely on public transport, road mortality rates per capita cannot be used for apples-to-apples comparisons with the same statistic in other countries.

ValueChampion creates guides and tools that make it easy to pay off debt, choose the best financial products and services and tackle major life goals like buying a house and saving for retirement.

*ValueChampion's findings are based on statistics culled from publicly accessible and official reports and datasets published by the Singapore government, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Pew, the United Nations and the World Health Organisation (WHO). The company collected data on the number of car accidents, fatal accidents, human population, vehicle population and road mortality rates for countries around the world to analyse trends in the frequency of car accidents from 2010 to 2019.

Gordon Murray Automotive's T.50 rewrites the supercar rulebook

- Engineered to be the most driver-centric supercar ever built

- Full exterior and interior reflect design purity and attention to detail

- The 3.9-litre V12 is the world’s lightest, highest-revving, most power-dense naturally-aspirated road car engine

Gordon Murray Automotive has unveiled its £2.36 million (before taxes) T.50 supercar globally in full for the first time, showing the finished exterior and interior design and confirming its technical specifications.

Improving on his acclaimed McLaren F1 “in every conceivable way”, Professor Gordon Murray CBE is leading the team that will begin building customer versions of the 986 kg supercar in January 2022. Murray’s design for the T.50 is the 50th in a line of race and road cars that he has penned over his 50-year career – both reasons combining to name the car T.50.

The T.50 has been engineered to be the purest, lightest, most driver-centric supercar ever. Its curb weight* of 986 kg is lower than the average supercar weight by almost a third. Thanks to the focus on light weighting, the car offers unparallelled levels of agility, responsiveness and driver focus.

The T.50 is a car that is created to be ‘alive’ at normal road speeds, not only when the revs climb past 10,000 rpm. It is powered by a 100% bespoke 3.9-litre, 663PS V12 engine that revs to 12,100 rpm, and features the most advanced and effective aerodynamics ever seen on a road car – aided by a 400 mm rear-mounted fan.

Source: Gordon Murray Automotive. The T.50 premieres globally.
Source: Gordon Murray Automotive. The T.50 premieres globally.

The most dominant characteristics of the T.50 exterior design are its simple, beautiful lines and a timeless appearance. It is free from the wings, skirts and vents that can be found on most modern-day supercars. The clean surfaces are enabled by the most advanced and effective aerodynamics ever seen on a road car.

The purity of the silhouette is broken dramatically when the pair of dihedral doors rise up and forwards, coming to rest high above the passenger cabin. Inside, the driver-centric approach is clear, from the central, jet fighter-like driving position, to the aerospace-grade primary and secondary controls arranged in an ‘ergonomic bubble’ around the driver.

With a vision that the car, and every element of its componentry, would be considered ‘engineering art’, Professor Murray set out to create a vehicle that surpassed all others, fostering new levels of pride and connection among owners. British suppliers are responsible for every major component throughout the interior, as well as every facet of the car’s underpinnings – an attribute insisted upon by Murray who was determined that the T.50 would be a true British sports car.

From the record-breaking V12 engine and best lightweight transmission, to the world-first aerodynamic package and the titanium throttle pedal, every ingenious element is 100% bespoke and crafted to the highest quality by a British company that leads in its field.

Every T.50 customer has the opportunity to meet Professor Murray to discuss their car and personalise it inside and out. Part of this process includes a seat, steering wheel and pedals ‘fitting’ session – personalised to every owner – that will ensure the T.50 is ergonomically perfect and individualised.

Said Professor Murray: “Just 100 customers will share my vision, a car created to improve on the F1 formula in every conceivable way. With 30 years of technological and systems advancement, now, the time is right to design the greatest analogue driver’s car. I believe no other company could deliver what we will bring to market in 2022, producing this British supercar will be my proudest moment.”

“From the first touch of the titanium throttle pedal to the V12 screaming at 12,100 rpm, the driver experience will surpass any supercar ever built. No other road car can deliver the package of power, instant responsiveness and driver feedback in such a direct and focused way while remaining comfortable, refined and usable every day,” he said.

The ultimate, sensory-rich driving experience starts with the central driving position. The ‘jet-fighter’ style seating position affords an unhindered view out of the cabin, offering the type of pure driving experience usually associated with a single-seater race car layout.

Professor Murray believes that the engine contributes to at least 50% of a great driving experience. With this in mind, Murray set out to create the greatest ever V12. Murray detests carbon or plastic engine covers so, upon raising the twin gullwing openings that span the rear half of the car, the bespoke Cosworth GMA V12 engine sits proudly on display with its cam covers, primary exhaust manifolds and inlet trumpets all taking centre stage.

The Cosworth GMA unit hits the mark as the world’s highest revving, fastest-responding, most power-dense, and lightest road-going V12. In terms of aural enjoyment, the T.50's 12,100 rpm redline will definitely deliver on the wow factor. The car also features Direct Path Induction Sound – a system pioneered on the McLaren F1 and refined on the T.50 to channel the sound of the throttle-induced induction growl into the cabin.

A cold-air ram induction intake sits immediately above the driver’s head, and carefully crafted carbon fibre panels in the roof act as a loudspeaker, amplifying engine sound within the cabin. The system is actuated by throttle angle and not revs, so the T.50 is quiet and refined on part-throttle, growing louder as the throttle opens.

Inside the cabin, all of the T.50’s ergonomically-placed analogue controls are beautifully designed. From communicative steering, which delivers pinpoint accuracy, to the weighting of the six-speed manual transmission and titanium throttle pedal, the engineering focus has always been on perfection. During testing, the manual H-pattern gear-change motion and weighting was honed meticulously. Signed-off personally by Professor Murray, the T.50 provides ‘the ultimate gear-change’ – a tactile short throw with a narrow cross gate for smooth, crisp, satisfying gear-changes.

With minimal interference from driver aids, the driving experience is left to shine – importantly, electric stability programme (ESP) and traction control can be disabled entirely. The technologies that do influence performance – for example, the six aero modes enabled through active and interactive fan-assisted aerodynamics – enhance the drive experience.

The 400 mm rear-mounted fan expands the car’s performance capabilities significantly versus an ordinary ground-effect supercar. In partnership with the active rear spoilers and interactive diffusers, the fan helps to increase downforce by 50% (in Braking Mode 100% more downforce is generated); reduce drag by 12.5%; add around 50 Pferdestrke (PS) to the car’s output, in combination with ram-air induction; and cut braking distance by 16 km from 241.4 km/h.

Professor Murray commented that he is "100% happy" with the car. He said: “For the past 18 months, the T.50 team has lived and breathed the ethos of the car, accomplishing everything we set out to achieve and more. I couldn’t be happier with the car and the team – they’re by far the best I’ve ever worked with.”

Rolls Royce to send off the Ghost with Zenith Collector's Edition

· Ingot made from 2009 Ghost concept 200EX commemorated in Ghost Zenith’s interior

· Blueprint-inspired artwork depicting technical data of 200EX engraved on centre console

· Contemporary complex marquetry celebrates Ghost’s dual passenger and driver nature

· Collection limited to only 50 examples

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars is celebrating the success of the Rolls-Royce Ghost with an extremely limited Zenith Collector’s Edition of the luxury icon.

The Ghost is coming to the end of its tenure. When production began in 2009, patrons were drawn to its elegant lines and dynamic offering. It is the most successful Rolls-Royce motor car ever built, attracting young entrepreneurs who have reduced the average age of a Rolls-Royce customer to around 43.

Source: Rolls-Royce. The three colour ways for the Ghost Zenith Collection.
Source: Rolls-Royce. The three colour ways for the Ghost Zenith Collection.

The 50 instances in the Ghost Zenith Collection will feature the highest levels of bespoke ever seen on a Ghost Collection car, the company said. An equally limited number of Phantom VII Zeniths were created in 2016 to celebrate the end of its the Phantom's reign. Such cars are highly sought after.

Torsten Müller-Ötvös, CEO, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, commented, “The Ghost Zenith Collection presents an entirely forward-looking study of the unique characteristics that have seen Ghost ascend to the status of the most progressive super-luxury saloon ever conceived. This unique collection provides patrons of the marque with a rare opportunity to own a motor car truly evocative of our time. Ghost is the most successful Rolls-Royce ever created and the Zenith Collection marks an important milestone in our modern history.”

When shown at Geneva in 2009, 200EX introduced a concept that was both driver- and passenger-focused. The Ghost Zenith Collection draws many references from 200EX, with perhaps the most significant being the inclusion of a commemorative ingot made from the original 200EX Spirit of Ecstasy, melted down and set in to the centre console of each of the 50 Zeniths. Engraved with the three key design lines of Ghost, the plaque details its origins. The collection’s own Spirit of Ecstasy and clock are engraved with the name of the collection.

The 200EX is also immortalised in an engraving on the centre console of the Ghost Zenith. A blueprint-inspired artwork enlarged to a point of abstraction has been divided into 50 distinct parts, providing each Ghost Zenith customer with a personal and individual work of art, while at the same time uniting the collection as a group homage to Ghost.

The eye is naturally drawn to the interior of the collection’s doors, which have illuminated door pockets. Ambient light glows through perforated leather, enhancing the architectural elegance of the Zenith Ghost’s interior. The door marquetry is complex and available in either wood, technical fibre or piano-finished veneer, transitioning from the driver’s suite to the passenger suite, and emphasising the dual nature of Ghost.

The rear seats feature embroidery inspired by seat details of the original 1907 Silver Ghost. This embroidery transitions from the rear to the front of the cabin, and in the case of the Extended Wheelbase Zenith, the headliner thrusts forward into the poised silhouette of the Spirit of Ecstasy. The seats themselves are accentuated in a contrasting leather.

Occupants of the Ghost Zenith Standard Wheelbase will experience a unique shooting star effect. The starlight headliner is presented in shooting stars that fire at random across the cabin roof. This feature consists of over 1,340 individually-mapped and hand-woven fibre optic lights.

The Ghost Zenith Collection’s exterior styling features a two-tone application with a gloss-contrast paint finish. Patrons may select three different colour ways: Iguazu Blue with Andalusian White, Premiere Silver with Arctic White or Bohemian Red with Black Diamond, with multiple variants available.

These cars are the final opportunity to acquire a Ghost. Each is handcrafted at The Home of Rolls-Royce in the UK.

The Rolls-Royce Cullinan is Rolls-Royce's first SUV

The most anticipated car of 2018 and, quite possibly, the most anticipated Rolls-Royce of all time is now here, says luxury car brand. Named after the largest diamond ever discovered - now in the British Crown- the Rolls-Royce Cullinan is an all-terrain high-bodied car that makes the idea of authentic, luxury off-road travel a reality for the first time.

“The super-luxury lifestyle is evolving and Rolls-Royce is in the lead. Luxury is no longer an urban concept. More and more it is about embracing and experiencing the wider world. Our customers expect to go everywhere in luxury, effortlessly and without compromise, conquering the most challenging terrain to enjoy life’s most enriching experiences, wherever they may be. For this reason, they have asked us to create a Rolls-Royce that offers uncompromised luxury wherever they dare to venture. Cullinan is that car. It is effortless, everywhere.

"It is incomparable and dramatically evolves the parameters of super-luxury travel, translating Rolls-Royce’s ethos of Effortlessness into physical capability, anywhere in the world. Cullinan will simply take the world in its stride,” said Torsten Müller-Ötvös, CEO, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.

Cullinan is the first “three-box” car in the SUV-sector, built in response to younger customers who wanted “The Rolls-Royce of SUVs”. The vehicle impresses off-road as well as on-road thanks to new lighter architecture and the latest generation of self-levelling air suspension.

Through a thorough re-engineering of the existing air suspension system – including adding larger air struts with more air volume to cushion the blows of tough terrains – the strengthening of drive and prop shafts, the inclusion of drive to the front wheels as well as the back for the first time in Rolls-Royce history, and the complete reworking of the new 6.75 litre twin-turbo V12 Rolls-Royce engine to deliver just the right level of torque (850Nm) at the lowest possible revolutions (1,600rpm), the Rolls-Royce engineering team has ensured that Cullinan will take owners to places no modern Rolls-Royce owner has travelled in luxury before.

The suspension makes millions of calculations every second as it continuously varies the electronically controlled shock absorber adjustment system – reacting to body and wheel acceleration, steering inputs and camera information. A new double-wishbone front axle and five-link rear axle deliver new levels of control over lateral roll and shear forces and deliver agility and stability, as does the addition of four-wheel steering.

In the case of driving off-road, the electronically controlled shock absorber adjustment system uses an air compression system to actively push down any wheel it detects losing traction to ensure every wheel is constantly in contact with the ground and maximum torque is being provided to all wheels.

Once the "Everywhere" button is engaged, the driver can finesse the offroad setting to glide over any situation, whether it be rough track, gravel, wet grass, mud, snow or sand delivering all 850Nm of torque to all four wheels without interruption. And faced with deep snow, sand or the need to ford streams, Cullinan delivers the deepest wading depth of any super-luxury SUV at 540mm thanks to its highest ride height.

“History set our precedent, and today Rolls-Royce answers its call to action,” said Müller-Ötvös. “Our answer to the visionaries, adventurers, explorers and those who believe in the supremacy of liberty is the Rolls-Royce Cullinan.”

According to Rolls-Royce, more adventurous customers wanted an SUV, but not one with compromises such as increased cabin noise due to the “two-box” formula; shared platforms that affect performance and comfort; the choice of being good either on-road or off-road; or a "just another" SUV.

“The launch of a new Rolls-Royce model is always a seminal moment in the luxury industry. Today we are setting a new standard by creating a new class of motoring and motor car for customers who are well-connected, highly mobile and have a global perspective. They want a new type of motor car that gives them unbounded access in ultimate luxury. Their sense of adventure and daring demands a 'go-anywhere in ultimate luxury” motor car that will both take them to and meet them at the pinnacle of life. Cullinan is that motor-car,” said Peter Schwarzenbauer, Chairman of Rolls-Royce and Member of the Board of the BMW Group.

“From the very beginning the design team treated this brand new Rolls-Royce as a unique, high bodied car. With global customer expectations in mind, our aim was two-fold – realise a presence to match the magnificent capability of Cullinan, whilst setting sector defining standards for luxury and elegance. We know that many of our luxury patrons pursue sports or leisure hobbies that require precisely this type of go anywhere vehicle – Cullinan’s design gesture had to possess an immediate sense of effortless accomplishment.”

The second new Rolls-Royce to sit on the all-new aluminium architecture of luxury, Rolls-Royce’s proprietary all-aluminium architecture, the Cullinan has a 6.75 litre twin-turbo V12 Rolls-Royce engine delivers 563bhp/420kW and 850Nm/627lb ft of torque to the all-new all-wheel drive, all-wheel steer system.

For the first time a Rolls-Royce has an opening tailgate, which it calls the clasp. The rear profile of Cullinan is a two-part, ‘D-Back’ format, with the bustle denoting the place of the luggage. The clasp opens and closes in its two sections automatically at the touch of the key fob button.

Two rear configurations are offered – lounge seats or individual seats. The lounge seat configuration has space for three passengers in the rear. The rear seats also fold down – another first for Rolls-Royce.

“The label SUV is now applied to anything with a two-box silhouette and the least suggestion of going off tarmac. We envisioned an authentic, three-box high-bodied all-terrain car with a convention-challenging design and absolute capability that would satisfy the adventurous urges of our clients,” said Giles Taylor, Director of Design, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.

The seats fold electronically in a number of configurations. One press of the appropriate button in the boot or rear door pocket sees each backrest fold down, whilst at the same time moving the headrests upwards to avoid making an imprint on the seat cushion. Both seat backs can be folded completely, creating a flat load area or in a 2/3 and 1/3 split. Rear passengers can still travel with a long load, or use the carpeted seat back as an occasional table.

For those who intend to transport large items back from their adventures, the rear of Cullinan offers a large amount of space in different arrangements. The rear compartment or boot area offers a standard 560 litres of space, growing to 600 with the parcel shelf removed. Furthermore, the base of the rear seats sit higher than the boot floor, so even with both rear seats folded, the items in the boot cannot slip forward and are safely contained, unlike in any other SUV. A loading length of 2,245 mm and load capacity of 1,930 litres is accessed by electronically raising the boot floor to meet the seat base. This is a longer loading length than for a Range Rover Vogue Extended Wheelbase.

In the individual seat configuration two individual rear seats are separated by a fixed rear centre console incorporating a drinks cabinet with Rolls-Royce whisky glasses and decanter, champagne flutes and refrigerator.

A glass partition isolates the passenger cabin from the luggage compartment, creating silence within the cabin, and maintaining the cabin temperature even when the luggage compartment stands open. The steering wheel is heated, as are the ventilated seats.

The central information screen is for the first time touch sensitive, allowing the driver to quickly select functions, map views and vehicle setup. This screen can be controlled from the iconic Spirit of Ecstasy controller which nestles on the central console with the off-road button, hill descent control button and air suspension height adjustment controls. Those in the rear sit higher than those in the front of the car on Rolls-Royce’s pavilion seating. They can zero in on their location on the rear touchscreen map.

Further innovations include:
  • Night vision and vision assist including daytime and night-time wildlife and pedestrian warnings;
  • An alertness assistant;
  • A four-camera system with panoramic view, all-round visibility and helicopter view;
  • Active cruise control;
  • Collision warning;
  • Cross-traffic warning,
  • Lane departure and lane change warning;
  • A 7x3 high-resolution head-up display,
  • Wi-Fi hotspot, and
  • The latest navigation and entertainment systems.
All electronic devices can be charged via the five USB ports around the cabin, whilst phones can be wirelessly charged in the front of the cabin.

Rolls-Royce to launch Dawn Aero Cowling

Rolls-Royce will be launching the Dawn Aero Cowling* at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, which begins 8 MarchThis new Dawn design is the result of demand for enhanced flexibility and practicality for the drophead coupé.

The Aero Cowling transforms the classic four-seater boulevardier Dawn into a two-seater roadster-style car without sacrificing the option of an open-top luxury car, by creating an extended tonneau cover over the rear seat area.

The Aero Cowling encloses the rear seat area of Dawn in a handmade unit that features two cowls that rise from the leading edge of the tonneau area, which conceals the Dawn hood, to behind each front seat. The cowls are sculpted to funnel the air to enhance driver comfort.

Each cowl offers enhanced lockable leather-lined storage compartments. The cover itself is made of carbon fibre and aluminium for both strength and light weight. The lids of the cowls are swathed in Rolls-Royce leather which matches the interior of the car.

The company will also be showcasing three bespoke Phantoms, the Phantom The Gentleman’s Tourer, the Phantom Whispered Muse and the Phantom A Moment in Time.

Rolls-Royce shares Bespoke models from 2017

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has shared the finest examples of bespoke design and craftsmanship to be completed by the luxury house over the past 12 months. The Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Bespoke department is a collective of designers, engineers and craftspeople who bring patrons’ most ambitious and personal visions to reality. Today, almost every motor car made by Rolls-Royce is bespoke.

According to the company, 2017 was the year that Rolls-Royce elevated its Bespoke initiative to unprecedented new levels, resulting in one of the most significant years for the Bespoke department in the 114-year history of the brand.

Sweptail

Rolls-Royce Sweptail premiered in 2017, draws on the lineage of 1920s and 1930s Rolls-Royce motor cars. The client’s vision was for a coach-built two seater coupé featuring a large panoramic glass roof.

The grille, milled from solid aluminium, presents a distinct formality. The side profile of Sweptail defines its stately character, whilst the rear taper of the motor car pays homage to the world of racing yachts. The rear culminates in the registration number 08, milled from ingots of aluminium and hand-polished to a mirror finish.

Phantom and The Gallery

This new Rolls-Royce Phantom has at the heart of its design aesthetic The Gallery, a contemporary and luxury reinterpretation of a motor car’s dashboard and instrument panel.

An application of glass runs uninterrupted across the fascia, providing an unprecedented opportunity to present artwork within a car.

Dawn and Wraith at Porto Cervo

Two motor cars were created in honour of the 2017 Rolls-Royce Summer Studio, Porto Cervo, Sardinia in Italy. A bespoke Dawn drophead coupé and a Wraith Black Badge were commissioned to encapsulate the essence of the island.

Source: Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. The Porto Cervo motif in sapphires and mother of pearl, in the Dawn.

Dawn adopted a nautical theme, evoking emotions of a Mediterranean sojourn. The Porto Cervo motif, encrusted with genuine sapphires and mother of pearl, is embedded into the front fascia of the motor car. Navy blue and arctic white hues complement an expanse of teak, including the decking and floor.

The Porto Cervo Wraith emulates Sardinia’s night time ambience. A two-tone Diamond Black exterior is contrasted with gloss and matte paint applications, while black woven leather door panniers infer Wraith Black Badge’s dark and complex character.

Spirit of Calligraphy Ghost

A special one-off commission unveiled in Dubai, UAE in 2017, the Bespoke Spirit of Calligraphy Ghost draws its design inspiration from the art of Arabic calligraphy. Words are harmoniously moulded into shapes called calligrams, creating a unique effect where text and image become one.

Source: Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. Detail of calligraphy motif, Spirit of Calligraphy Ghost.

Sir Henry Royce’s words “Take the best that exists and make it better. When it does not exist, design it”, in their Arabic form are shaped into Rolls-Royce’s flying mascot, the Spirit of Ecstasy. The calligram, created by artist Khaled Al Saaei, features as a silver inlay on the centre panel and as embroidery on the rear centre seat, amidst an array of Turchese, Black and Arctic White leathers.

Ghost Elegance

Commissioned for an individual collector, the Ghost Elegance is the first motor car to be finished in a paint infused with diamonds. Named Diamond Stardust, the unique paint incorporates 1,000 diamonds crushed to form a very fine powder, giving the finished panels unmatched lustre and sparkle.

The flanks of the car are highlighted with Mugello Red and Black twin coachlines, reflected inside with black leather seats and accents in Mugello Red, carried through stitching on the doors and piping on the seats. The detailed fascia of smooth open-pore Tudor Oak veneer is also complemented with a Mugello Red single stitch along the top of the dashboard, and finished with a Bespoke clock.

Dawn in Fuxia
In 2017, US collector Michael Fux was presented with his 10th Bespoke model from Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. Following a visit to Pebble Beach, US in 2016, where he collected a cluster of fuchsia petals, he challenged the Bespoke team at Goodwood - the home of Rolls-Royce - with a commission to bring a new colour to Dawn.

Dawn in Fuxia represents a unique hue to the Rolls-Royce Colour Collection, and is reserved exclusively for Fux. His most recent commission is his second Dawn, having collected the first – in one-off Fux Blue – in 2016. Reminiscent of that car, the interior of Dawn in Fuxia is trimmed in Arctic White leather.

Dawn B50 for Hotel Byblos

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Hotel Byblos in Saint-Tropez, France in 2017, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars revealed the Dawn B50, a Bespoke car inspired by the warmth and vibrancy of the Côte d'Azur.

Commissioned by the Hotel Byblos as the automotive Jewel of Saint-Tropez, the Dawn B50 has two dominant exterior colours. The combination was developed exclusively to celebrate the hotel’s anniversary, along with bespoke door treadplates and a unique hand-painted coachline on each side bearing the B50 logo. The sophisticated interior takes inspiration from the Mediterranean sun, with tangerine tones that accentuate the dashboard and echo the stitching across the seat upholstery and floor mats.

A special Silver Dawn

Prominently displayed at the Home of Rolls-Royce is a very rare 1952 Silver Dawn. It was sold new to a customer in Canada, and in 2017 a commission for a new Dawn from the same country led to a homage to this particular car in its 65th anniversary year.

Finished in two-tone Midnight Sapphire and Jubilee Silver, the new Dawn closely emulates the original finishes of the 1952 motor car, with a Bespoke painted coachline, broken for the first time on a Rolls-Royce. Inside, Selby Grey and Navy leather are combined with Crossbanded Walnut Burr veneer, closely matched to the original. The finishing touches include a Bespoke clock with 1952 lettering and a Spirit of Ecstasy veneer inlay.

Inspiration from South Korea

The Bespoke Collection for Korea embraces the aesthetic heritage of South Korea with contemporary flair. The Ghost Seoul Edition reflects colours that grace the country’s Taegukgi national flag, finished in bright Andalusian White with a twin coachline in Cobalto Blue and Mugello Red – along with a handpainted Bespoke motif that captures the silhouette of the iconic Namsan Seoul Tower. Inside, the black leather upholstery is complemented by contrasting bands in Arctic White, as well as blue and red highlights for stitching and piping.

The Wraith Busan Edition is inspired by the hues of the coastal city of the same name, with a two-tone exterior in Royal Blue and Jubilee Silver that conjures up the shimmering sea. The rear pillar motif echoes the delicate latticework of traditional Korean hanok screen doors, and is also carried inside the car across the dashboard. Emulating the dusk sky across nearby mountains, a single coachline in Blushing Pink draws attention to the shoulder line. The colour is also applied to the seat stitching, instrument panel and RR headrest monograms inside, as a flourish to the Selby Grey and Cobalto Blue upholstery.
