After the success with Yardbird in May, LMO Freshly Baked at Mandarin Oriental, The Landmark Hong Kong continues its Tastemaker Series this June with Bar Leone. Recently named Asia’s Best Bar 2024 and ranked No. 2 on The World’s 50 Best Bars, Bar Leone is renowned not only for cocktails but also for food. The bar is expected to bring Roman flair to the LANDMARK Atrium with a menu of comfort-driven dishes created exclusively for LMO Freshly Baked.

"The Tastemaker Series is about showcasing the diversity and excellence that make Hong Kong a world-class dining destination," said Chef Richard Ekkebus, Director of Culinary Operations & Food & Beverage at Mandarin Oriental, The Landmark Hong Kong, and curator of The Tastemaker Series.

"Bar Leone’s distinctive approach and reputation as a local and international favourite and its ability to connect with Hong Kong’s discerning dining crowd and cultural spirit embody exactly what this series is all about. We're proud to collaborate with Lorenzo and his team, and even more proud that every dish contributes to a meaningful cause."

Bar Leone at LMO Freshly Baked (2–28 June)

Founded by bartender Lorenzo Antinori, Bar Leone has redefined what a neighbourhood drinking experience can be. Now, Antinori brings that same approachability to the bakery counter with three exclusive dishes that reflect Bar Leone’s playful but refined culinary identity:

Spinach ricotta pie (HK$78)
Vegetarian option, made with ricotta, spinach and organic egg, ideal for a summer snack.

Italian chicken salad (HK$98)
A chicken salad with cherry tomatoes, basil, capers, parmesan reggiano and Bar Leone's smoked olives.

Tramezzini tonno e pomodoro sandwich (HK$88)
Sandwich made with Japanese milk bread, white tuna salad and vine tomatoes – a Roma signature.

"In my family, food was always what brought everyone together. That’s something we try to capture at Bar Leone — comfort, connection, and a sense of place. So when Chef Richard asked me to be part of The Tastemaker Series, I didn’t hesitate. It’s a chance to share flavours from my childhood while supporting a cause that matters," said Antinori.

The Tastemaker Series celebrates the city’s top homegrown culinary talent. Each month, a different icon is invited to reinterpret their flavours in a casual, grab-and-go format while contributing to a meaningful cause: MINDSET, the registered charity of the Jardine Matheson Group focused on raising awareness and transforming perceptions of mental health.

Each item in The Tastemaker Series reflects the high standards of Mandarin Oriental, The Landmark Hong Kong and the creativity of its partners. For every item sold, HK$10 is donated to MINDSET.

Details

Each collaboration runs for four weeks, with a new partner introduced monthly from May to September 2025. Details on the exclusive creations from Bar Leone, The Chairman, TATE Dining Room and Little Bao will be revealed throughout the campaign period.

Philips will also be presenting two special edition shavers featuring its cutting-edge rotary technology. Both shavers are part of a new range of shavers which emulate different characters from the Star Wars movie collection.
The shavers, a BB-8-inspired SW5700/07 (recommended retail price [RRP] S$149) and Philips Star Wars in Stormtrooper-inspired SW170/04 (RRP S$109) will be on sale at the popup.

The SW5700/07 has five-direction flex heads that glide close to the skin for a close shave, even in tricky areas along the neck and jawline. The shaver’s Aquatec Wet & Dry seal gives a close shave wet or dry, while its 50-minute running time gives you more shaves without recharging.

The rounded edges and four-direction Flex Heads on the lightweight SW170/04 shaver ensure a comfortable, protective shave. Its ComfortCut Blade System will get as close as possible to the skin while protecting it from nicks and cuts.

Featuring V-Track Precision Pro technology, the shaver boasts 72 self-sharpening V-shaped blades and cuts at 151,000 times per minute without pulling or tugging. This technology positions each hair in the best cutting position, even on a three-day stubble for a shave 30% closer* to the skin, while leaving no irritation or burns.

“This collection will not only excite Star Wars fans but also gentlemen who want to up their shaving game. The Philips Star Wars shavers will be introduced at wallet-friendly prices while still offering all-star performance. All Philips shavers make use of a proprietary rotary shaving technology that is designed to follow the contours of the face, offering the closest shave possible and can be used on-the-go for ultimate flexibility and convenience,” said Aw Ee Ling, Senior Marketing Manager, Personal Health, Philips Singapore.

The Butchers Club Burger serves up National Day fare for Singapore's 51st

Source: The Butchers Club Burger's National Day menu will feature a specially created The Little Red Dot Burger.

For two weekends starting from 29 July, The Little Red Dot Burger will be available as part of The Butchers Club Burger Singapore’s National Day Set Menu. This is The Butchers Club Burger’s first National Day celebration in Singapore, and The Little Red Dot Burger is a fitting creation that pays homage to Singapore’s satay ayam (chicken satay).

The Butchers Club Burger’s Singapore-inspired burger features 140g of a grilled juicy chicken patty, with crunchy cucumber strips, freshly shaved red onions, caramelised pineapple is lathered in rich ginger peanut sauce, and served between two sesame buns. The Butchers Club touch was added by upsizing it to the usual Butchers Club Burger portion, and serving it with caramelised pineapple for that extra zest.

The National Day Set Menu (S$28++ for the non-alcoholic version) is a combination of popular local flavours: It will come with The Little Red Dot Burger, a side serving of straight-cut fries seasoned with curry powder and a chocolate, vanilla or strawberry milkshake. This set menu will only be available from 29 July to 10 August 2016.

SilkAir to offer direct charters to Okinawa

As part of continuing efforts to promote a direct Singapore-Okinawa air link, SilkAir, the Okinawa Prefecture government, Japan and Changi Airport Group will launch seven direct SilkAir charter flights between Singapore and Okinawa, Japan’s southernmost prefecture, between 1 and 25 June 2016.

These full-service flights will be sold via Singapore travel agents*. The flights will be operated with SilkAir’s latest Boeing 737-800 aircraft, featuring both Business and Economy class cabins. Passengers will be offered a suite of SilkAir’s full-service offerings, including 30kg and 40kg baggage allowance for Economy and Business class respectively, inflight meals, and complimentary inflight entertainment via SilkAir Studio, which allows them to stream movie, TV and audio content directly to their personal devices.

Departing from Singapore Changi Airport, the flight time is approximately five hours and 15 minutes on the service, which arrives in Naha, capital of Okinawa. “SilkAir is pleased to offer these direct charter flights to Okinawa once again, as a follow up to our first ever series of charters between September 2014 and January 2015, which garnered high interest. We are confident that this new series of flights will continue to receive good response, with the support of the Okinawa Prefecture government and Changi Airport Group,” said SilkAir’s Vice-President Commercial, Ryan Pua.

Lim Ching Kiat, Changi Airport Group's Senior Vice-President for Market Development, said, “Changi Airport welcomes SilkAir’s non-stop charter flights to Okinawa. These nonstop flights will halve the usual journey time between the two cities and bring greater convenience to Singapore passengers visiting Okinawa during the June holidays. We are excited about the potential of establishing more such flights on a regular basis, and eventually building a sustained travel demand that will drive the launch of scheduled passenger services on this route in the future.”

Okinawa comprises hundreds of the Ryuku islands which extend southwest from the southern end of mainland Japan towards Taiwan. Shuri Castle, a registered UNESCO World Heritage Site, is in Naha. Flight schedules*:

HP launches special edition notebook with Star Wars theme

HP has unveiled a special edition notebook in anticipation of the release of Star Wars: “The Force Awakens”.

“HP is delivering an amazing Star Wars experience as the only PC vendor collaborating with Disney and Lucasfilm to create a one-of-one-kind notebook,” said Serena Yong, Managing Director, HP Singapore. “As part of this relationship, we were able to tap into Lucasfilm’s media archives to create custom screen savers, desktop backgrounds and sound profiles – configurable by the customer.”

Source: HP.

The Star Wars Special Edition notebook has a “battle-worn” distressed design with Galactic Empire written in the Star Wars Aurebesh font on the hinge and iconic Stormtroopers on the keyboard deck. The touchpad design mirrors the X-Wing Star Fighter Guidance System and the red backlit keyboard completes the dark-side design.

For portability and power, the Star Wars Special Edition notebook gets up to seven hours of battery life1 and is offered with Full HD2 in a 15.6" diagonal display. Users have the choice of sixth generation Intel Core i5 and i7 processors3.

Source: HP.
The notebook comes with up to 1 TB of HDD capacity4 and up to 8GB of RAM5 with the option to select between Intel HD Graphics 520 and NVIDIA GeForce 940M graphics processors. The notebook is also offered with an optical drive for customers to enjoy all their Star Wars movies. With audio tuned by B&O Play and dual speakers, customers will have remarkable sound experiences. Customers can enhance their Star Wars Special Edition with a Star Wars Special Edition Sleeve, and an optional Star Wars Special Edition Wireless Mouse6.

The Star Wars Special Edition notebook further adds themed software, content and audio on the Windows 10* PC. Users can click on the Imperial Cog desktop icon to be taken to the Star Wars Command Center for browsing the Star Wars Special Edition notebook’s Themes and Galleries. Users will have access to unique content collections with over 1,100 images spanning 40 years of Star Wars history. Content includes behind-the-scenes images, storyboards, artwork, classic photos, set and costume designs, and audio selections.

Themes offer customisability with sound, wallpaper and screensaver collections. This gives customers the option to replace the standard Windows notification sounds with eight categories of iconic Star Wars sounds including R2-D2's unique beeps and the whirr of the lightsaber. Wallpapers include planetary collections based on movie stills.

Galleries host several categories for customers to explore Star Wars content. Customers can view original movie posters in Collections or explore the Concept Art section to view Lucasfilm art that guided movie development including early ideas on characters, costumes and settings. Illustrated Art celebrates Star Wars with artwork from black and whites to comic book art. The Star Wars Special Edition notebook also includes access to the first Marvel Star Wars comic in the series, e-book excerpts from select Star Wars titles and Star Wars movie trailers.

Hardcore fans will appreciate the included Aurebesh font in the font library, which allows users to type in Galactic Base Standard language. Another nod to Star Wars includes replacing the Recycle Bin with a Death Star icon – not destroyed when empty and destroyed when full.
