Source: Epson. Edge blending demonstrated using two 12,000-lumen high-brightness laser projectors with the latest ELPLX02 elbow lens.

Epson, the No. 1 selling projector brand worldwide, has launched the 15,000-lumen EB-L1755UNL laser projector targeting the rental and staging market.

Tan May Lin, GM (Sales, Marketing and Customer Service division) of Epson Singapore said, “The projection landscape continues to evolve as new technologies and innovations become available. Today, projections are used as important communication tools, and industries are increasingly using projection in new applications, particularly for large venue installations. Specifically, the unique character of the rental and staging vertical has a huge potential growth for Epson as we launch more high lumens laser projectors.

"As a brand, we understand the emotional impact image quality has on projected visuals and we’ll continue to deliver next generation innovations to ensure that we meet the business needs of our customers.”

The new EB-L1755UNL is the most compact 15,000 lumens 3LCD laser projector in its class. It integrates inorganic 3LCD panels with an inorganic phosphor wheel to achieve superior light and heat resistance for outstanding image quality, reliability and durability.

With its laser light source, the EB-L1755UNL projector delivers bright colours for up to 20,000 hours of maintenance-free use, in WUXGA resolution. It also delivers 15,000 lumens of white and colour brightness.

Designed to operate 24x7, the EB-L1755UNL has improved dust resistance over older models and is ideal for applications requiring continuous projection, including events, storefronts, museums, digital signage and more. With a laser light source, the projectors reach maximum brightness in just under seven seconds.

The projector comes with an operating system that enables easy setup and control of geometry features for seamless projection, such as edge-blending, curve projection, corner wall projection, point correction, and quick cornering.

Features highlights include:

• 4K enhancement technology – viewers can experience intricate details. Pixel scaling technology shifts each pixel diagonally by 0.5 pixels to double the resolution to 3,840 x 2,160, surpassing Full HD quality.

• Auto image calibration – equipped with a built-in camera, the EB-L1755UNL is capable of calibrating and adjusting colour, uniformity and white balance automatically.

• Flexible projection – the projector can be rotated 360 degrees in any direction for off-axis positioning, and is fully tiltable for maximum installation flexibility.

• The projectors support HDBaseT and network projection.

Epson offers up to 11 different types of lenses which include the latest zero-offset ultra-short throw lens, the ELPLX02 that can display up to 1,000" in diagonal screen size at an extremely short throw ratio of 0.38. This range of lenses enables the projectors to be installed in conditions where available space is at a premium.

Additionally, they also come with remote camera access. The actual projection image can be monitored with an embedded camera for real-time troubleshooting.

One-chip sequential colour projectors use a rotating colour wheel that spins at a rapid speed and displays colours sequentially. For some users, this results in images displaying colour breakup or a rainbow effect. Epson’s projectors use a three-chip, solid-state optical engine to deliver bright, true-to-life colour, without colour breakup or rainbow effects. In fact, colours are up to three times brighter and the colour gamut three times wider than leading competitive one-chip projectors.

Projectors compete with LCD displays in business scenarios

Epson Singapore, the No. 1 projector brand in the world for 16 consecutive years, believes that projectors are important communication tools that can be used to engage audiences in new ways. Toshimitsu Tanaka, MD, Epson Singapore and Southeast Asia said that projectors are ideal not only for basic communications, but also for digital signage and outdoor projection mapping.

“Epson pioneered the 3LCD technology in the 1980s. In 1989, we launched our first 3LCD projector, the VPJ-700. Since then, Epson continues its commitment to offering projectors that lead the world in technology, innovation and quality," he said.

Tanaka-san spoke of Epson's market leadership in projectors.
Tanaka-san spoke of Epson's market leadership in projectors.

"Today, we continue to hold the dominant market leadership position as the leading projector brand for 16 years and running that takes care of the little details using the most innovative technology in the world. In Southeast Asia, our market share is at 37.7% as of FYQ117, according to FutureSource Consulting and we pride ourselves on bringing exceptional value to our customers.”

Tan talked about Epson's focus on details as a differentiating factor.
Tan talked about Epson's focus on details as a differentiating factor. It's in the Details is the tagline for the
new Epson pan-Asia B2B brand campaign. "To achieve enduring success we take pride in our attention to details and innovation. Details are what turns ideas, dreams and the future into reality," she said. "The proposition in our campaign (is that) innovation always works better when you are able to control the details. We're able to do that through our vertically integrated model."

In addition, the company said that innovation works best when attention is paid to the details. Tan May Lin, GM (Sales, Marketing and Customer Service division) of Epson Singapore said, “When it comes to developing new technologies and innovations, we believe that it’s our attention to detail that makes a fundamental difference and sets us apart from our competitors. These details come from listening to what our customers want from our products, and satisfying their needs by designing products that exceed their expectations.

"In terms of Epson’s projection innovation, every component in our projectors is created with the same obsessive attention to detail to ensure spectacular performance that will stun even the biggest crowd.”

From left, Joseph Mak, Sales Manager Asia Pacific, Milestone AV Technologies, Daniel Poh, Asia Sales Director, Extron Electronics Asia, Amy Kwa, Head of Department SEA, Visual Products Department, Epson Singapore, Adrian Tan, Technical Sales Account Manager (ASEAN countries), SOTI, and emcee Charlene. Epson’s Projection Conference & Showcase is supported by Extron Electronics Asia, SOTI, and Milestone AV Technologies. Technologies from all three partners were part of the integrated solutions at Epson Town. The display onstage, seen behind the panelists, is from the world's brightest 3LCD laser projector, installed at the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre. The EB-L25000U laser projector is low-maintenance and capable of displaying images at 25,000 lumens.

Amy Kwa, Head of Department SEA, Visual Products Department, Epson Singapore said that projectors are very versatile display solutions as they can be used in almost any space. "You just have to find the right projector," she said.

She also pointed out that projectors can be used for digital signage and are able to turn any type of surface into a screen, so that physical signage - which is time-consuming to create and set up, and permanent - is no longer required. "The projections are distortion-free," she said. "It can be very immersive and transforms the whole event experience. You can (bring) your imagination to life. That's what the public wants today."

Projectors can also turn existing surfaces such as tables and walls into interactive touchscreens, which is ideal for students who have grown up with touch technology, she added. "(We have) cost-effective solutions for schools that want to look into an interactive experience. (They have) the flexibility and the scalability in terms of image size."

Reliability and durability are the two key customer requirements for projectors today, she added. One of Epson's value propositions is longer-lasting components with its laser projector family, so that lamps only need to be replaced after two years or 20,000 hours, whichever comes first. "Laser projector solutions are for end users who really want a projector that can save them the hassle," she said.

rule is often used to define optimal viewing distance, ie the height of the display should be 4x the maximum distance from the display to the participants for analytical viewing, and 6x for basic viewing, said booth representative Brian. An 8x height is best for passive viewing, as in playing movies or videos. LCD panels conforming to the rule may not offer the same experience as a projection.

Single-chip DLP projectors display a single primary colour at a time, resulting in less vibrant images, whereas 3LCD projectors display all the colours at once for up to 3x brighter colours. The stripe effect only shows up through the camera; in real life the colours for the image on the left merely looked duller.

At Epson Institute, an academic setting, Epson showed how interactive ultra-short throw projector technology can accommodate larger screen sizes with more readable details. The interactive support means that the screen is effectively a large tablet.

A recent study in the US by Radius Global Market Research found that 58% of students in an average classroom are unable to read content displayed on a 70" flat panel display. While displays are limited by their size, projected images are not restricted to a specific size and can go up to as much as 100". In addition, students and teachers can interact together with such projectors using gestures or pens, without having to power up a PC.

Daniel Poh, Asia Sales Director, Extron Electronics Asia, said that his company is focused on user-friendly, robust and reliable products. The solution at Epson Institute makes use of Extron collaboration technology that connects up to 50 devices to ensure that students can collaborate. The collaboration platform controls all the devices and switches the image source from one device to another. Access is with a keycard for security. "Any cable that you plug into the teacher's laptop will (trigger a) switchover automatically," Poh said.

Joseph Mak, Sales Manager Asia Pacific, Milestone AV Technologies, said the Da-Lite IDEA projection screen at Epson Institute is ideal for educational use. It works as a conventional whiteboard problem that is erasable and magnetic, but unlike a whiteboard does not have "hotspots", or reflective areas, when it is used as a projection surface.

In the videoconferencing scenario, an Epson interactive projector is used with a Da-Lite screen as the projection surface.

Epson Cafe showcased new retail concepts to attract customers. Epson’s ultra-short throw projectors enable retailers to project a large screen within a compact area to create a specific ambience, and can project images on walls, ceilings and floors or 3D objects. Digital signage does not have to be reprinted and reinstalled, the booth representative said. The EB-G7905U mapped animated images onto a 3D surface for signage, and the EB-2265U was used for broadcasting football games.

The BenQ LU9715 digital laser projector.

BenQ, the global brand in digital light processing (DLP) and interactive displays, has announced a new line of laser projectors for large-venue corporate, professional, and educational applications.

According to BenQ, large business venues, museums, exhibition halls, and boardrooms will appreciate the 24x7 continuous operation capability. Daren Low, Senior Product Manager, BenQ Singapore, explained that low-maintenance requirements are a plus point when the projectors are typically mounted at heights which are relatively inaccessible, and would need scaffolding to be erected every time maintenance is required.

The colour-accurate digital laser projection line features the LU9715 and LU9235, both of which offer BlueCore Laser technology for full 360° and vertical projection, support for 24x7 operation, and ultra-bright output of 8,000 and 6,000 ANSI lumens respectively.

BlueCore laser technology allows for complete control of light output under any conditions. This allows for ultra-high 100,000:1 contrast ratio and auto-adjustable brightness to reveal every detail of the darkest images and video scenes. The LU9715 and LU9235 also feature spontaneous response with no wait time required to turn on or resume projection from a blank screen, achieving true black for zero light intrusion.

“Our blacks are very black even on standby mode,” Low said.

Adaptability is enhanced with features like 360° rotation and portrait orientation for a variety of installation choices. High-quality all-glass construction ensures ultra-clear focus and high apertures for brighter images in venues of every size.

Motorised zoom, lens shift, advanced geometric correction, and optional lenses are among the options available. Up to eight lens options are available to cater to a wide range of installation configurations.

Epson has launched a new series of 3LCD interactive projectors, the EB-600 series*, featuring beyond full HD ultra short throw projection, PC-less interactivity and for the first time, seamless interactivity across dual screens among other innovative features.

Ideal for education and corporate environments, the new EB-600 series projectors - the EB-696Ui, EB-695Wi2, EB-685Wi, EB-685W3 and EB-680 projectors - deliver a dynamic viewing experience.

The series features WUXGA resolution of 1,920 x 1,200, which is beyond full HD, and with an increased brightness of 3,800 lumens. With a throw ratio of 0.27, the ultra short throw projector series needs a gap of just 47cm to project an 80" screen, reducing shadow interference for uninterrupted presentations.

With the new series, users can save on total cost of ownership with 10,000 hours of lamp hours in ECO mode, while still enjoying a bright projection of 2,900 lumens using this energy-saving feature. Other ecofriendly features include auto-brightness adjustment, where a luminance sensor detects and automatically adjusts the projector’s brightness levels for lower energy consumption.

The Xperia Ear “Open-style CONCEPT” is based on 'open-ear' audio technology developed within Sony's Future Lab Program, an incubator that enables consumers to trial and shape prototypes from Sony’s R&D division. The product utilises Sony's acoustics research and expertise to deliver wireless 'openear' stereo headphones, so wearers can listen to music and receive notifications, whilst simultaneously hearing sounds from the world around them.

Xperia Ear “Open-style CONCEPT” has two spatial acoustic conductors and driver units working together to transmit sounds directly to the ear canal. And just as with Xperia Ear, Xperia Ear “Open-style CONCEPT” will be powered by Sony Agent Technology - a personal assistant that uses conversational voice interaction and head gestures to help users get things done.

Sony Mobile will continue to develop new features to further increase the in-ear assistant capability. An example of this is Anytime Talk, a new voice chat service that will allow users to start a group conversation in real-time without searching through contacts or needing to dial - just press a button or make a single head movement. The beta version will roll out for the first-generation Xperia Ear over the coming months.

Epson Singapore has launched its next-generation EB-G7000 high brightness projectors for large venues. The EB-G7000 series deliver high quality images and operate on low noise, making them ideal for meeting rooms, lecture halls, and museums among other venues.

The projectors are equipped with the latest 4K enhancements and deliver brighter and more vibrant images at up to 8,000 lumens for both colour brightness and white brightness*. Compared to competitive one-chip models, these projectors offer three times higher colour brightness**.

An Epson first, the projectors come with motorised lenses, enabling highly precise adjustments when employing edge blending and other features such as curved screens, and superb flexibility in projector placements. The EB-G7000 series also feature the world’s first zero-offset ultra-short throw lens with a throw ratio of 0.35, useful for environments with extremely limited lens-to-screen distances. With this, projections can be made onto 100" screens from as close 43cm away.

The EB-G7000 series’ super-resolution technology delivers sharp images even when projecting low-resolution content. The projectors come with dynamic projection capabilities including advanced built-in edge blending, projection on wide curved and corner spaces, as well as point correction, amongst other innovations.

By combining Epson’s proprietary C2Fine (Crystal Clear Fine) Technology, inorganic LCD panels and Epson’s optimised cooling system, the EB-G7000 series can operate 24x7 without requiring rest periods.

Additional features include:

Nine optional interchangeable lenses: Increased installation flexibility allows users to choose the motorised lens most suited for their environment. A quick-release lever enables fast, easy lens exchange.

4K enhancement technology accepts 4K signals and improves the 1080p experience for movies***. Available on select models.

With the split screen function, two different sources can be projected side-by-side. The free Epson Moderator software allows up to 50 Windows, Mac, iOS or Android devices to be connected over the network, with up to four of them displayed on the screen simultaneously.

Full 360-degree installation flexibility, including portrait mode, allowing for a wide range of applications including simulators, mapping, digital signage and command centre usage.

Supports the full range of inputs, including HDBaseT, SDI, HDMI, DVI-D, VGA, and five-BNC, for easy integration with any system. Also supports Crestron, AMX, Extron, and Control4 protocols for integration into existing systems. Select models also support Art-Net DMX for lighting control for staging applications.

Emulates the control codes of other major projector brands for easy upgrade to Epson projectors without the need to reprogram existing controller systems.

Epson launches value priced WUXGA projector

Epson, a major projector maker, is redefining the market for business projectors with its first value-priced Widescreen Ultra Extended Array (WUXGA) projectors that deliver high-resolution images beyond Full HD video.

Siew Jin Kiat, General Manager, Visual Instruments Division, Epson Southeast Asia, said: “For the first time, businesses can enjoy the high colour and white brightness performance of Epson projectors at competitive prices. In particular, our first entry-level WUXGA projectors, such as the EB-U04, allow us to deliver beyond Full HD images to customers who are looking for a value-for-money projector to deliver more impactful presentations.”

Supporting a WUXGA resolution of 1,920 x 1,200 pixels that goes beyond Full HD, the EB-U04 promise better images, distortion-free video, plus enhanced colour and white brightness of over 3,000 lumens.

According to Epson, all Epson projectors are powered by Epson’s proprietary 3LCD technology that produces vibrant colour projections and smooth projections of movies without colour breakup. They also deliver up to three times higher colour brightness and up to three times wider colour gamut than one-chip projectors. Unlike other one-chip projectors, Epson projectors are not susceptible to the “rainbow effect” – a limitation of the one-chip technology that occurs while projecting darker moving images, the company added.

Epson business projectors have been built with seamless connectivity in mind. The EB-U04 comes with multiple connectivity options, such as VGA and LAN. It also includes two HDMI ports, one of which supports MHL (Mobile High Definition Link) that can be used to hook up a compatible smart device to mirror HD content on the big screen. Once connected, the device can be operated and charged using the projector’s remote control.

Setting up presentations is easier with Epson’s iProjection app, which lets users connect their smart devices to an Epson projector by scanning a QR code on the projected screen. The iProjection app also enables users to easily share and transmit images, text and files from smart devices.

The projector features automatic vertical keystone detection and adjustment. An in-built physical horizontal keystone adjuster can be used to correct keystone distortions caused when the projector is placed at an angle to the projection surface.

The new projectors also feature a new home screen that displays source information, and puts frequently used functions at your fingertips. They are also capable of detecting input sources automatically, making it easy for executives to kick off their presentations right after a content source is connected.

In line with Epson’s commitment to environmental conservation, the new projectors now come with projection lamps that last for 10,000 hours in eco-mode and filter maintance cycle increases to 10,000 hours. The longer lifespan of the lamps not only reduces electronic waste, it also brings cost savings for businesses while minimising the need to maintain a projector’s air filter. This is equivalent to using the projector for 3.5 years with usage of eight hours per day for 365 days per year.

Epson has also made the lamp much easier to replace. Traditionally, a projector would have to be removed from its ceiling mount for lamp replacement. With the new projector, the lamp is easily accessible, with the cover on the upper side of the projector.
