Kaspersky uncovers how people use AI during the holidays

Kaspersky has illuminated a shift in AI usage during the holiday season. Besides being a reliable shopping or planning assistant, AI has emerged as capable of delivering emotional support – particularly among the Gen Z and Millennial cohorts. However, Kaspersky experts warn that placing too much trust in AI can threaten data security.

In the run-up to the Christmas holidays, Kaspersky conducted a survey* to find out how people leverage AI-powered tools to make the most of their free time and streamline holiday preparations, and to highlight the potential cyberthreats that result.

It turns out that AI’s popularity in the 2025/2026 holiday is rather high, with 74% of survey participants indicating they plan to incorporate AI into their holiday activities. The younger generation demonstrated the strongest enthusiasm for AI usage, with 86% of respondents aged 18-34 expressing their intention to resort to AI during the holiday period.

According to the survey, more than half of AI users planned to use the tools during the holidays to search for recipes (56%) or restaurants and accommodation (54%), underscoring AI's ongoing significance in simplifying research processes and reducing search-related time commitments.

However, AI-as-idea generator also received a great response from the audience. The survey found that 50% of users rely on AI assistance for brainstorming gift ideas, ways to celebrate, or tips on Christmas decoration. The same number of respondents plan to ask AI to generate ideas on how to spend their free time.

During the holidays half of respondents regard AI as a shopping assistant, which can help them to create shopping lists, find the best deals or analyse reviews. The younger generation showed high interest in AI as a budget planner (50%), while older people (aged 55+) are less passionate about allowing AI to manage their expenses (31%), preferring to use it to search for recipes (59%) and generate gift ideas (41%).

Modern AI tools enable holiday shoppers to find offers that perfectly match individual preferences and budget constraints with just a few clicks. However, the reliability of chatbot-generated information remains a significant concern. Kaspersky recommended that shoppers check all links provided by AI before clicking on them, as they may contain malicious or phishing content. To mitigate this risk, cybersecurity experts recommend employing a security solution empowered with AI-based phishing detection tools.

Beyond its capacity to tackle diverse challenges and generate new ideas, AI has assumed a new role: serving as a virtual companion capable of offering emotional assistance. Nearly three in 10 (29%) of those who use AI during holidays consider talking to it when they feel unhappy. Zoomers (Gen Zers) and Millennials show the biggest interest in AI-powered support among all ages, with 35% of respondents voting for this option. The older generation demonstrated a more restrained interest – only 19% of respondents aged 55 and older consider talking to AI when they're upset.

Kaspersky highlighted that while communication with AI services may seem personal and private, most chatbots are owned by commercial companies with their own data collection and processing policies. To enhance data privacy the company suggested:

- Before starting any conversation, review the privacy policy of the AI tool you’re using. Some AI providers may use your emotional conversations to infer information about you, which can be used for targeted advertising or even sold to third-party marketing firms. Check whether you can opt out of using your chats for such purposes as model training or marketing to minimise the amount of data collected.

- Try to avoid sharing deeply personal, identifying, or financial information with AI chatbots. Treat your messages as you would a public social post – never assume absolute confidentiality.

- Stick to AI services from reputable companies with strong privacy and security track records. Avoid using anonymous or unknown bots that could be designed to harvest data. Malicious or fake AI bots may attempt to extract personal information to commit fraud, phishing, or blackmail. To protect your data, use a security solution that prevents clicking on unreliable links.

“As LLM models rapidly evolve, their potential for engaging in meaningful dialogue with users grows as well. However, it's important to bear in mind that they learn to answer from data, most of which is sourced from the Internet, meaning they are prone to regurgitate the error and biases from the text used for training. It’s highly recommended to approach AI suggestions with a healthy dose of scepticism and try to avoid oversharing,” commented Vladislav Tushkanov, Group Manager at Kaspersky AI Technology Research Center.

*The study was conducted by Kaspersky’s market research centre in November 2025. Three thousand respondents from 15 countries (Argentina, Chile, China, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, KSA, Malaysia, Mexico, South Africa, Spain, Turkey, UK, and the UAE) took part in the survey.

New capabilities include:

Persistence: Users can now engage with AI Companion via a convenient, persistent side panel, with seamless availability throughout Zoom Workplace, delivering an AI-first user interface (UI) that seamlessly integrates graphical and conversation UIs to allow for better information flow across workplace-wide.

More context: AI Companion gains advanced contextual understanding based on what the user is looking at in the Zoom Workplace app and on previous conversations to provide intelligent suggestions and responses that come with citations.

Better synthesis: AI Companion can pull in interactions from across Zoom Workplace, and, when connected, information from Microsoft Outlook, Gmail, Google Calendar, and uploaded files from Microsoft Office and Google Docs to help users summarise content and interactions and get caught up fast.

Connected: AI Companion will be able to answer user questions and look up information from the web in real time.

Taking action: AI Companion will be able to detect, track, and complete actions across different workloads in Zoom Workplace to help users get more done.

For example, users can:

- Use prompt suggestions and generate answers from AI Companion via a convenient side panel across Zoom Workplace, including Zoom Meetings, Zoom Team Chat, Zoom Docs, Zoom Calendar, and Zoom Mail.

- Expand the context of information with data from across Zoom Workplace and, when connected, information from Microsoft Outlook, Gmail, Google Calendar, and uploaded files from Microsoft Office and Google Docs. AI Companion will remember previous conversations you’ve had within the side panel and interactions from across Zoom Workplace.

- Generate next steps from a meeting summary and AI Companion can automatically turn those next steps into Zoom Tasks to help keep teams aligned and on track to deliver projects on time. Zoom Tasks is planned to be available in December 2024.

- Summarise unread messages within a Zoom Team Chat channel. Within the new home tab, AI Companion will be able to provide users with a list of updates based on unread chats and emails.

AI Companion 2.0 will be available in the coming weeks at no additional cost with paid services in Zoom Workplace accounts.

Custom add-on for AI Companion

A new optional add-on that allows for a customised and personalised AI Companion experience for individual customers will allow customisation with company glossaries, offer enhanced search capabilities, and take action on the user’s behalf. With expanded data access to apps beyond Microsoft and Google email and calendar services and additional company data sources to expand its knowledge, the add-on will provide a new level of performance to the experience. Key components of the new add-on include:

Customised experience with AI Studio: Organisations can tailor the AI Companion experience with custom dictionaries, meeting summaries, and knowledge collections, in addition to helping improve response accuracy by connecting to company data sources.

Connected third-party apps: An option to connect third-party data sources that integrate with Zoom's AI capabilities will allow AI Companion to get answers and orchestrate actions across third-party apps like Atlassian (Jira & Confluence), Glean, Workday, Zendesk, ServiceNow, Box, Asana, Hubspot, and more.

Personalisation: With the custom AI Companion add-on, individuals can also grow their skills with personal coaching capabilities and save time and production costs with custom avatars for Zoom Clips. Users can avoid multiple takes by using a personalised, AI-generated avatar to create clips with a user-provided script.

Custom AI Companion add-on will be available for US$12 per user per month and is planned to launch in 1H25.

Zoom Workplace advancements

New Zoom Workplace innovations include an AI-first product, Zoom Tasks, which will use AI Companion to help detect, recommend, and complete tasks for a user based on conversations from across Zoom Workplace; Zoom Phone AI-first enhancements, including real-time queries, which will provide summaries of Zoom Phone calls as they happen and automated Zoom Phone voicemail greetings from the user's voiceprint that are tailored to the user’s calendar events to avoid manual voicemail greeting updates.

Zoom Workplace users will be able to have more productive meetings and collaborate more effectively with AI Companion producing meeting agendas and real-time meeting summaries. A library of pre-selected avatars in Zoom Clips can help them generate professional video content from text; while Zoom Docs will offer new organisation and permission options for finer control, new Data Table views and columns for collaboration on projects, APIs and workflow automation, plus new AI Companion skills to generate content tailored for writing scenarios and additional data sources.

These Zoom Workplace enhancements are included at no added cost with the paid services in Zoom Workplace accounts.

In-person experiences

Zoom further announced AI Companion for in-person meetings, which provides meeting summaries and action items via the Zoom Workplace app on a mobile device. For in-office meetings, AI Companion is expanding within Workspace Reservation to recommend what days employees should go into the office based on when their teammates are there, and recommend rooms based on location and size.

Employee engagement

New AI-first employee engagement solutions that help foster connection include AI Companion for Workvivo, which helps keep employees informed, engaged, and connected by creating content faster, and Workvivo Employee Insights, which helps measure employee engagement, happiness, and performance.

Zoom Customer Experience

Zoom introduced enhancements to self-service solutions and improved agent and management support features to help provide world-class customer experiences.

Zoom’s self-service chatbot, Zoom Virtual Agent, now includes multi-intent detection to handle more complex customer issues. It can process several problems within a single engagement and automatically update customer intents based on learnings from active trends or common queries. Zoom is also launching an AI virtual voice agent to bring Zoom Virtual Agent’s capabilities into self-service voice calls.

The new Auto Quality Management allows supervisors to gain comprehensive insights into agent performance, automatically scoring customer interactions.

New AI Expert Assist capabilities include dynamic agent guides—AI Expert Assist analyses the conversation context, notices which steps the agent has already taken, and then guides them to the relevant next step.

Evie the AI assistant takes the work out of scheduling

Technology startup mimetic.ai has launched Evie, an AI scheduling assistant that helps organise business meetings.

Evie independently corresponds with other parties on the user's behalf until meetings are locked into all schedules. Users experience a significant reduction in back-and-forth e-mails, and an improvement in productivity. Early users have included professionals in recruitment, sales, e-commerce, entrepreneurs and startups.

According to mimetic.ai, it takes an average of 4.4 emails to schedule one meeting, and with a scheduling assistant like Evie, the scheduling negotiations, timezone calculations, followups, calendar invites, and reminders are all done for the user.

Evie also offers premium features for businesses including the ability to operate on a corporate domain, look at co-workers' availability and book meeting rooms.

“Evie is an AI-powered scheduling assistant that anyone can use,” said co-founder of mimetic.ai Praveen Velu. “Too much of our time and energy is being wasted on repetitive and low-value tasks like scheduling. As a result of this, the workday has become much longer. With Evie, you now get hours of your time back to spend on the things that matter because you never have to deal with finding common dates, following up and rescheduling.”

Leveraging technology in natural language understanding and decision-making, Evie does not require any special commands or syntax, and understands the language used in emails.

“At Carousell, we have fully integrated mimetic.ai’s assistant into our work, and she has now become our very own personal scheduling assistant,” said Chai Jia Jih, VP, International at Singapore-based e-commerce platform Carousell. “Evie is smart, and can read and write emails like a real person. She is extremely natural in the way she corresponds that we’ve actually had folks show up for meetings asking for Evie at reception.”

"The era of humans learning to communicate with machines is at an end. Evie, a digital AI employee who speaks and understands human, is the future. With nothing to learn or download, everyone can now harness the power of AI to get the job done," said Jin Hian Lee, co-founder of mimetic.ai.

Lim Qing Ru, Co-Founder of Zopim, now Zendesk Chat said: “I love it. Who doesn’t like a smart AI personal assistant?”

Drew Graham, Co-Founder of payments network Wobe Indonesia added: “I was sceptical how much Evie could help me as arranging every meeting is always an edge case - it's never simple.  I was blown away by how easily she handled different requests, timezones and cancellations.”

Evie is available worldwide starting at US$19.99 per month for an annual subscription. Evie works with Google Mail, Google Apps (now Google Suite) and Office 365 accounts. Users can sign up using their email address with no need for plug-ins or downloads.
