KSA grows MICE industry

KSA hosted over 10,129 business events approved by the Saudi Exhibition and Convention Bureau (SECB) in 2017, a 16% increase compared with 2016.

The healthcare, education, technical and communications sectors accounted for the highest share of business events held in 2017 in 22 targeted economic sectors. The Riyadh region accounted for 47% of the events, the highest business activity in 2017, followed by the Makkah region with (32%), and the Eastern Province with (17%).

Engineer Tareq Al Essa, Executive Director, SECB, said that KSA's strategy to develop the Saudi MICE industry is based on eight pillars: institutional building, systems and regulations, research and information, resources and financing, marketing, developing organisers, plus facilities and events. He also shared that the SECB has achieved 75% of Saudi meetings industry development plan for the years 2014-2018.

SECB is also a new member of the International Association of Conference Centers (IACC).

“The Saudi Academy for the management for Management of Events, Exhibition and Conference is the first body specialised in education and training dedicated to events management in the Middle East and it will remain one of the development arms of the meetings industry in the kingdom,” he said.
