New HP Pavilion x2 detachable, ENVY notebooks sleeker and more powerful

HP has launched its latest generation Pavilion x2, a detachable, and ENVY notebooks in a thinner, curved design.

The HP Pavilion x2 takes the detachable PC category to a new level. Designed for productivity and optimised for entertainment, the detachable PC has a snap-in magnetic hinge to transition from notebook to tent mode to stand mode*.

The HP Pavilion x2 is available in Blizzard White and Sunset Red, and gets up to 10.45 hours of battery life playing full HD video (5). The device includes a quad-core Intel Atom processor with up to 64 gigabytes of storage and a micro SD card reader to further expand storage (1). The 10" tablet is 9.65 mm thin and 16.75 mm with the keyboard attached.The tablet alone weighs 0.59 kg and 1.12 kg with the keyboard attached (2, 3).

The HP Pavilion x2 features a USB Type-C connector to charge and power the device and enable data transfer over USB 2.0. The device also has a full-size USB 2.0 port. The Pavilion x2 also includes a micro HDMI to connect to an external display or TV, and comes with one year of Microsoft’s Office 365 Personal including 60 Skype premium minutes per month and 1 terabyte (TB) of Microsoft OneDrive Storage (6).

The redesigned HP ENVY14 and 15.6" notebooks offer quality, power and performance. The ENVY notebooks feature aluminum finishes and a backlit keyboard, Bang & Olufsen premium audio and high resolution displays. A new hinge design elevates the notebook for easier typing and better cooling.

The new notebooks use prismatic batteries to give customers a thinner and lighter design with improved battery life when compared to previous models. While the 14" HP ENVY now has a 55.5 watt-hour battery, it is 3.7 millimeters slimmer than the previous version with up to 10.25 hours of battery life at 1.9 kg (3, 11). The 15.6" Intel based HP ENVY notebook battery grew from 48 watt-hours to 55.5 watt-hours to extend battery life to up to 9.5 hours (11).

There is a choice of Intel Core i5 and i7 processors (1), up to 2TB of storage with options for a hybrid hard drive and solid-state-disk (SSD) with up to 16GB of memory (7, 8). The HP ENVY 14" notebook is available in a 14" diagonal HD or Full HD non-touch display (4, 9) while the 15.6" notebook comes with a choice of HD, Full HD and Quad HD+ panel options with optional touch (4, 8, 9, 10).

The 14" HP ENVY notebooks come with three USB 3.0 ports, while the 15.6" version has four USB 3.0 ports. All 2015 HP ENVY notebooks include one USB 3.0 port that supports HP Sleep and Charge to charge a phone or tablet even when the computer is sleeping or off.

HP has announced a new wave of Pavilion convertibles and notebooks that offer more processor, graphics and display options. Specifically, HP announced:

 Colourful HP Pavilion x360s that flip from notebook mode for working, stand mode for watching, tent mode for playing games and tablet mode for on-the-go.

 Customisable HP Pavilion notebooks that offer more hardware choices including discrete graphics and higher resolution displays. 

"Customers told us that they wanted more colour choices, more hardware options and better battery life in our Pavilion notebooks and x360 convertible PCs,” said Anneliese Olson, VP, Computing Solutions, Printing & Personal Systems, HP Asia-Pacific & Japan. “With our 2015 Pavilion line up, we have combined bold new colours from the runways in Milan with the latest processors to give customers systems with a fresh new look that deliver better performance and battery life across the board.”

The HP Pavilion x360s have an innovative hinge that uses a set of three spiral gears for synchronised and precise movement to ensure the display glides smoothly and stays in place, where the user wants it. They are available in a new colour palette, including Sunset Red and Minty Green, and include full-sized, 1.5mm travel keyboards for comfort. A full-sized HDMI port, two USB 3.0 ports and one USB 2.0 port are supported.

The high definition (HD) IPS display makes gaming and movies more enjoyable with crisp images that look great at any angle^{1, 2}. For the best sound reproduction, the HP Pavilion x360s have B&O Play audio.

For 2015 the HP Pavilion x360 is now available with Intel Core M-5Y10C processors in addition to Intel Celeron or Pentium processors³. With a 32 watt-hour battery and the Intel Core M processor, the new HP Pavilion x360 packs up to four more hours of power than the previous Pentium-based model. Customers can enjoy up to eight hours and 15 minutes of battery life⁴. The HP Pavilion x360 comes with up to 8 GB of system memory⁵.

For portability and power, the HP Pavilion notebooks are thinner and lighter with longer battery life. The 14" and 15" HP Pavilions offer up to eight hours and 15 minutes and seven and a half hours of battery life respectively, while weight is reduced across the line⁴. The notebooks have a redesigned unibody chassis n a variety of colours including Natural Silver, Blizzard White, Sunset Red, Cobalt Blue, Violet Purple, and Peachy Pink. Dual speakers tuned by B&O Play provide more immersive sound.

The HP Pavilion notebooks are offered with HD or Full HD on the 15" notebook, touch or no touch in both the 14" and 15" displays^{1, 2}. HP Pavilions come with the fifth generation Intel Core i3 through i7 processors³, up to 2 TB of HDD on select models and up to 16 GB of system memory⁵. Customers have the option to select between AMD Radeon and NVidia discrete graphics processors for this family. 

The Pavilion x360 is available for S$699, while both the 14" Pavilion notebook (500GB) and the 15" Pavilion notebook start at S$849. All devices will be available in June 2015.

HP 2 in 1, printer ideal for home offices

HP today announced a PC and a printer targeted at home offices. 

Designed to be fashionable and functional, the HP Pavilion x2 will be available in Singapore from October for a starting price of S$499**. The Pavilion x2 can be used as a 10" diagonal Windows tablet and shifts into a full-featured laptop with a detachable dual-purpose magnetic keyboard/cover that both protects the screen and serves as a multi-position stand.
The 2-in-1 PC is powered by an Intel Atom processor, and features front-firing speakers with DTS sound and a battery that lasts up to 11.45 hours*. It currently comes with the Tiffany blue keyboard/cover, with Moonstone gray and Lavender purple keyboard/covers to be available by end-year.

HP also announced a new HP ENVY printer that supports the latest mobile printing solutions, providing an easy way to print directly from smartphones and tablets***. The new printer can be set up quickly and easily with a smartphone or tablet. 

The HP ENVY 7640 e-All-in-One printer comes with NFC touch-to-print capability, a 25-page automatic document feeder, automatic two-sided printing and a fax function. The HP ENVY 7640 e-All-in-One has a larger 8.9cm colour touch-screen panel and an automatic photo tray that supports 4R (10 x 15cm) and 5R (13 x 18cm) printed photograph formats. The printer will be available in November starting from S$299**.

The new HP ENVY 7640 supports WiFi Direct, a feature that allows users to maintain a simultaneous connection with both the printer and the Internet. Ink cartridges cost S$19 for black ink and S$24 each for coloured inks. 

Sang Hoon Park, Printing Category Director, Printing & Personal Systems Group, Singapore, noted that inkjets and colour lasers serve different markets today. "Inkjets have better quality with the right media. If you don't print a lot, inkjets are best. Colour lasers are more for the commercial and enterprise market. A lot of LaserJets are bought for their high duty cycles," he said. While the new printers will support a recommended 300 pages per month, HP's lasers can print 5,000 to 6,000 pages a month.
