Indosat’s Anti-Spam and Anti-Scam capability has stopped hundreds of millions of digital fraud attempts

Amid rising digital crime and the increasing volume of harmful spam calls and messages, Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison (Indosat) has reinforced its commitment to safeguarding customers through the integration of AI across its network. 

Since its launch on 7 August 2025, Indosat’s Anti-Spam and Anti-Scam feature has blocked over 200 M risky calls, alerted users to more than 90 million suspicious messages, and protected an average of 11.5 M customers per month from potential digital fraud.

This innovation forms part of Indosat’s AIvolusi5G journey, a synergy between AI and 5G network capabilities, designed to deliver a digital experience that is secure, inclusive, and empowering. Operating at the network level, the system screens suspicious calls and messages automatically, without requiring additional apps or special devices.

Urgency for this protection is underscored by the GASA State of Scams in Indonesia 2025 report released in late August. The report found that 66% of Indonesian adults encountered scam attempts in the past year, with 14% losing money totaling IDR49 T. Most scams occurred via direct-message platforms such as instant messaging and SMS. 

Bilal Khazmi, Director and Chief Commercial Officer, Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison said: “This technology is designed to help our customers of all age groups explore the digital world with greater confidence. With fast connectivity, accessible products, and strong protection, we remain committed to deliver world class digital experiences, connecting and empowering every Indonesian."

Based on internal data, more than 290 M spam calls have been identified on Indosat's VoLTE network. When extrapolated to the entire customer base, this figure amounts to over 500 M identified scam and spam SMS and calls within just 2.5 months since the launch of the Anti-Spam and Anti-Scam feature. In addition, more than 145 M spam and scam messages have been flagged, including 110 M scam (fraudulent) messages.

Although the system does not yet fully block harmful calls or messages, its role as an early-warning system has proven effective in reducing financial losses and strengthening public digital awareness, Indosat said. Customers receive alerts before potential harm occurs, enabling them to take timely preventative action.

Indosat believes that technological progress must go hand-in-hand with digital literacy enhancement. Guided by the Zero Trust principle — never assume trust, always verify — this principle forms the foundation of Indosat’s approach in introducing this feature, helping the public remain vigilant toward suspicious messages, links, and calls.

The Anti-Spam and Anti-Scam feature, powered by Indosat’s AIvolusi5G technology, provides protection without requiring premium devices or additional app installations. For IM3 mobile customers, this protection is introduced as SATSPAM (Satuan Anti Scam dan Spam). SATSPAM BASIC is automatically active for all IM3 prepaid users with an active data package, and SATSPAM+ offers enhanced protection with the ability to detect malicious links.  

Tri mobile customers have a similar feature called TRI AI. AntiSpam/Scam features are available through visual detection with three colour codes: turquoise for a safe number, yellow for an unknown number, and red for high-risk numbers. 

Customers from IM3 and Tri can also access the Plus+ protection feature through the myIM3 and bima+ apps. This feature is automatically activated for users with an active data package, providing alerts via phone notifications and SMS for numbers flagged as suspicious or potentially harmful. It also offers clearer SMS warnings, colour-coded notification popups, and a call history summary accessible directly through the apps.

Samsung Electronics has unveiled the latest additions to the Galaxy A Series – the Galaxy A17 5G, Galaxy A17 and Galaxy A07. Designed to empower users from all walks of life, these new devices feature essential, AI-powered features, strengthened security and privacy upgrades, as well as a sleek, modern design.

Durable, lightweight, reliable and long-lasting, the new Galaxy A Series enables users to do more, see more, and be more. The new Galaxy A17 offers fan-favourite features from the Galaxy S Series, furthering Samsung’s vision of democratising AI experiences to more users. 

This includes the seamless integration of Google Gemini activation through pressing and holding the side button, as well as Gemini Live, a voice-activated hands-free experience. Both AI features allow users to cue seamless interactions across Samsung, Google or third-party apps like Spotify. Circle to Search⁴ with Google is also available on the Galaxy A17 – supporting new ways to access information.

For low light adventures, the new Galaxy A17 brings enhanced optical image stabilisation (OIS) that enables shake-free videos and brighter images than its predecessor⁵, and a triple camera system that includes 5 MP Ultrawide, 50 MP Wide, and 2 MP sensors.

Users can also take advantage of Samsung’s security and privacy innovations. Samsung Knox Vault⁹ protects personal information in separate tamper-resistant hardware while Auto Blocker prevents the installation of applications from unauthorised sources and blocking malicious activity. In addition, the Galaxy A17 and Galaxy A07 are equipped with Theft Protection. This allows remote locking of the home screen as well as forced biometric authentication to restrict further unauthorised access. 

The Galaxy A Series additions feature lighter and slimmer bodies than their predecessors. The Galaxy A17 is just 7.5 mm thick¹² and its 5G and LTE variants weigh 192 g and 190 g respectively. Meanwhile, the Galaxy A07 is 7.6 mm¹³ thick and weighs 184 g. 

Designed to last, the rear bodies of the Galaxy A17 and Galaxy A07 are assembled with glass fibre reinforced Polymer (GFRP) which provides a stronger, lighter back cover. The front cover of the Galaxy A17 uses Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+¹⁰ which provides added durability, and both the Galaxy A17 and A07 come equipped with IP54¹¹ dust and water resistance.

Travel Alliance kicks off cross-border telco rewards programme with Grab, Trip.com

The Travel Alliance, comprising Singtel, AIS, Globe, HKT, Optus, Taiwan Mobile and Telkomsel, announced a strategic partnerships with leading ride-hailing, delivery, and travel brands Grab and Trip.com last month to enable savings for Alliance customers when they travel.

The Travel Alliance was formed in February 2024 with the aim of launching the first-of-its-kind cross-border rewards programme to enable its almost 300 million customers to enjoy a slew of incentives on transport, dining, merchandise, and lifestyle services when they travel to the markets where the operators are based. Trip.com 

Over the next six months, Alliance members will be sharing discount codes that their customers can redeem for hotel and flight bookings on Trip.com. These are applicable for travel up to 30 June 2026. 

Customers can use these codes to enjoy 10% off hotel bookings. Subsequent campaigns will include 6% off flight bookings and other promotions. 

Alliance customers on loyalty programmes, such as Singtel Red and Prestige*, may be eligible for an additional perk of getting upgraded to Trip.com’s Diamond status membership. More details on these campaigns will be shared by the respective telcos. 

Grab 

The Grab Tourist Packs, which offer savings on rides and meals, can be easily accessed via Alliance members’ apps, starting with Singtel’s. The offers can be used when traveling to locations in Southeast Asia where Grab is available. The Alliance will be collaborating with Grab to develop tailored Tourist Packs for their respective markets to ensure added benefits and a more personalised experience for their customers when they travel.

Samsung Electronics has announced the Galaxy A53 5G and Galaxy A33 5G, both of which the latest Galaxy innovations, offering a holistic mobile experience at great value. Powered by a brand-new processor, coupled with Galaxy’s signature AI camera, an expansive and smooth display, plus long-lasting battery life, the new Galaxy A series lineup features 5G connectivity, defence-grade security, an eco-conscious, stylish and slim design, and advanced connected experiences.
