L’Oréal reports that rinsed-off products will be microbead free by end-2016

L’Oréal has made significant progress since its commitment to gradually phase out plastic microbeads was published. The company committed in 2014 to phase the exofoliants in its rinsed-off products, after it learned that the microbeads would persist in the marine environment and waterways.

At present, 80% of the reformulations required have been completed and 100% of the company's rinsed-off products will be reformulated by the end of 2016, ahead of forecasts, the company said. Multiple solutions have been found for microbead substitutes, including the possibility of using minerals like clays and perlite, powder of fruits kernels and some natural waxes, either alone or in association.
