Sony's LinkBuds S deliver immersive sound entertainment

Source: Sony. The LinkBuds S headphones.
Source: Sony. The LinkBuds S.
Sony has added the LinkBuds S to its LinkBuds series. The latest model empowers a new sound experience through Sony’s sensing technology and partner collaboration, all while maintaining a “never off” experience.

LinkBuds S feature noise cancelling technology and high-resolution audio. The headphones support the LinkBuds ambient sound concept that lets wearers interact with the world around them, as well as high-quality noise cancelling so that they can also focus on the content they love.

Better audio

Sony’s Integrated Processor V1 improves noise cancelling, enhances sound quality and reduces distortion with less power for distraction-free listening. With the help of a new 5mm driver unit the earbuds produce powerful bass and clear vocals despite their size.

These new headphones also allow you to experience High-Resolution Audio Wireless, a capability based on Sony’s industry-adopted audio coding technology, LDAC. All music is restored back to high-range sound with the use of DSEE Extreme, which upscales digital music files in real time. Hear all the fine details in every track.

Intelligent adjustments

Sony’s Precise Voice Pickup Technology optimally controls the microphones on both earbuds for clear conversations in all environments. Adaptive Sound Control is further adjusts ambient sound settings depending on where the wearer is, creating the ideal listening experience.

Speak-to-Chat, based on precise Voice Pickup technology, makes the headphones smart enough to pause music automatically when the wearer speaks to someone.

Thanks to the intuitive touch sensor control panel, wearers can change sound settings, activate Quick Attention and even resume Spotify music playback or Endel, with just a few taps on the earbuds. Endel facilitates the creation of personalised soundscapes.

The wider ecosystem

LinkBuds S support Google’s new Fast Pair feature for pairing an Android device with other devices quickly and easily. Swift Pair also makes it simple to pair the headphones to a Windows 11 or Windows 10 laptop, desktop PC or tablet.

The new headphones are also Google Assistant and Alexa compatible.

Game integration

By leveraging sensor and spatial sound technology, the headphones also deliver immersive sound entertainment in augmented reality (AR) games such as Ingress. Sony has collaborated with its partner Niantic, the maker of Ingress, so that players wearing LinkBuds S will hear sound delivered depending on the direction they face.

Archit Bhargava, Director of Product Marketing, Niantic said, "Niantic has a vision of a Real World Metaverse, which means adding the AR digital layers onto the real world. Currently, the AR layers are visual layers; however, we believe that adding a sound layer will create a richer AR experience and it makes the real world more enjoyable and convenient.

"Sony's LinkBuds series adds the sound layer without compromising the visual and audio information of the real world. When it is used with the various games offered by Niantic, they can create a richer, more enjoyable gaming experience. Ingress, which is celebrating its 10th milestone this year, is going to have a new feature before the summer. We hope you will enjoy the feature with the LinkBuds series.

"Also, please stay tuned for the AR experience by the combination of LinkBuds series and our Lightship platform, which is the foundation of Niantic’s game titles, which shall be available soon."

These earbuds are additionally ready for LE Audio, a next-generation Bluetooth audio standard that enables ultra-low latency that is ideal for gaming.

Practicality

The wireless headphones weigh approximately 4.8 g, and are shaped to match the human ear. An ergonomic design offers a more stable fit.

In terms of battery life, Sony said the LinkBuds S have a full working day of charge – 6 hours with noise cancelling on – from the headphones. Another 14 hours of use can be extracted from the compact charging case. In a punch, a 5-minute quick charging session will deliver up to 60 minutes of play time.

Sustainability

The environmentally-friendly LinkBuds S, like the rest of the LinkBuds series, come in packaging that is plastic-free. The headphones themselves use recycled materials from automobile parts, reflecting Sony’s commitment to reducing the environmental impact of their products.

Details:

LinkBuds S will be available in White, Black and Ecru in selected countries in Asia Pacific from end-May 2022.

Philips TAPH805 wireless over-ear noise-cancelling headphones launched in Singapore

Source: Philips. The TAPH805 wireless over-ear noise cancelling headphones
Source: Philips. The TAPH805. .
The Philips TAPH805 wireless over-ear noise cancelling headphones with high-end specifications at a mid-range price are now available in Singapore. These headphones are designed to provide excellent audio performance, comfort, plus design and build quality.

The TAPH805 is one of the lightest models in its class, weighing in at just 235 grams. It is perfect for travelling and easy to store, thanks to a unique folding design that fits into the pocket, or can be  folded flat. Users can enjoy their audio from phones, tablets or laptops, thanks to standard Bluetooth 5.0 wireless connectivity.

Easy-to-use physical buttons and touch controls make it easy for users to hear things as they want them. A touch of the headband activates Google Assistant. Physical buttons allow users to play, pause, skip forwards and backwards, or access essential call features.

Swiping on the right earcup controls the volume and basic voice assistant functions, while a single tap activates or deactivates active noise cancelling, or lets users engage Awareness Mode to hear more of the world around them while the audio continues to play.

With a Hi-Res Audio (HRA) source, users get the full benefit of lossless audio that is recorded at a higher sample rate than the CD standard, which is 16-bit encoding with a 44.1 kHz sample rate. Music sounds just as the original artistes heard it, faithfully reproduced by the large, high-quality 40 mm diameter speakers. These are capable of HRA-accredited bandwidth of 7 to 40,000 Hz.

The headphone's Advanced Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) hybrid technology cancels out background noise, thanks to four electret condenser (ECM) microphones - two feedback microphones inside the earcup, and two feed-forward microphones outside the earcup. The earcups are built of soft memory foam for comfort and also help to block unwanted sound.

Users enjoy 30 hours of battery life with two hours of charging. Quick-charge delivers six hours of playback from just 15 minutes of charging, and a five-minute rapid charge is enough for another two hours of playback. The headphones can even be used without battery power, via the included audio cable that is compatible with inflight entertainment systems.

The new headphones are provided by TP Vision, an audiovisual digital entertainment provider. TP Vision concentrates on developing, manufacturing and marketing Philips-branded audio products worldwide. The company combines the Philips brand heritage with its design expertise, operational excellence, flexibility and technology.

The Philips TAPH805 is available in Singapore for an manufacturer's suggested retail price of S$249 at Sprint-Cass Changi Airport Electronics Retail and online.

Mastercard introduces audio brand identity

Mastercard debuts its sonic brand identity, a melody that signifies the latest advancement for the brand. Wherever consumers engage with Mastercard across the globe – be it physical, digital or voice environments - the distinct and memorable Mastercard melody will provide familiarity, the brand said.

The news comes on the heels of the company’s recent transition to a symbol brand - one without the company's name - and is part of its continued brand transformation.

“Sound adds a powerful new dimension to our brand identity and a critical component to how people recognise Mastercard today and in the future,” said Raja Rajamannar, Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, Mastercard.

“We set out an ambitious goal to produce the Mastercard melody in a way that’s distinct and authentic, yet adaptable globally and across genres. It is important that our sonic brand not only reinforces our presence, but also resonates seamlessly around the world.”

To ensure the Mastercard melody would resonate with people the world over, Mastercard tapped musicians, artists and agencies from across the globe, including musical innovator Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park.

The result is a distinct melody that maintains a consistent global brand voice. In addition, the use of varying instruments and tempos help to deliver the Mastercard melody in several unique styles such as operatic, cinematic and playful and that is open to a number of regional interpretations.

The Mastercard melody is the foundation of the company’s sound architecture and will extend to many assets, from musical scores, sound logos and ringtones, to hold music and point-of-sale acceptance sounds.

“What I love most about the Mastercard melody, is just how flexible and adaptable it is across genres and cultures,” said Shinoda.

“It’s great to see a big brand expressing themselves through music to strengthen their connection with people.”

With voice shopping set to hit US$40 billion by 2022 , according to data from OC&C Strategy Consultants, audio identities are set to connect brands with consumers on a new dimension.

"Audio makes people feel things, and that's what makes it such a powerful medium for brands, said Matt Lieber, Cofounder and President, Gimlet.

“With the explosion of podcasts, music streaming, and smart speakers, an audio strategy is no longer a nice-to-have for brands — it’s a necessity. A sonic identity — the audio calling card for a brand — is now just as important as a brand’s visual identity.”

In the lead up to the 61st GRAMMY Awards (February 10 US time), Mastercard will launch a new multichannel marketing programme starring GRAMMY-nominated artist Camila Cabello, which will be the first creative output to feature the brand’s sound logo.

Following the US introduction, the Mastercard sound will head to The BRIT Awards in London, UK and then Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. Additional activations and sonic integrations will be announced around the world in the coming months.

The X-mini RAY XOUNDBUDS also feature a universal three-button system and microphone.

Source: X-mini. The sleek docking case doubles up as a power bank for the wireless X-mini LIBERTY XOUNDPODS.

The X-mini LIBERTY XOUNDPODS are X-mini's first true wireless earpods, designed for convenience and affordability. The cable-free XOUNDPODS are created with ease of use in mind. The left and the right earpods automatically connect to and disconnect from each other and to a paired device the moment they are removed from or returned to their charging dock case.

"You don't even have to touch a button," Soo said.

In addition, each X-mini LIBERTY XOUNDPOD can work in either SinglePod or DualPod mode. Each side contains an independent microphone, so that calls may be answered using both earpods in true stereo mode, or with one earpod.

The X-mini LIBERTY is IPX4 splash-proof and offers continuous playback for up to 3.5 hours per charge. A ceramic antenna means connections are more stable - in areas where there are a lot of Bluetooth devices, there can be interference in any Bluetooth connection, causing audio to drop or skip in the case of connected audio, Soo explained.

It also features a 6 mm dynamic driver with a graphene coating for superior sound. "We feel we should let people hear what we believe in - crisp clear audio sound," Soo said. The properties of graphene promise reduced power consumption, the ability to transfer louder sounds with smaller speakers, and less sound distortion in the audio world. The X-mini LIBERTY can deliver up to 14 hours of playtime with its charging case. On a single charge, the earpods offer up to 3.5 hours of play time.

Hoong says: “At X-mini, we place the same level of demand on quality for our products as if we were consumers. We aim to create a true wireless earpod that produces quality sound for everyone to enjoy beyond its size. This is the heart of our X-mini LIBERTY XOUNDPODS.”

"We price it as truly affordable," Soo added of the S$69.90 price point.

Hashtags: #trulywirelesstrulyfree, #xminiliberty

All wired earbuds come with a 3.5 mm audio jack for maximum compatibility with phones in the market, with Lightning and USB C compatibility in the works. Soo also shared that noise cancellation capabilities are in the product roadmap.

Jabra introduces three new members of its Elite series

Jabra launches the Elite Active 65t, Elite 65e and Elite 45e in Singapore.
Jabra launches the Elite Active 65t (right), Elite 65e (left)
and Elite 45e (middle) in Singapore.
Jabra is launching the Elite Active 65t, Elite 65e and Elite 45e in Singapore. The three devices are part of the Elite family of headphones and earbuds, a series engineered for outstanding music quality and strong voice capability.

The Elite family includes true wireless, headband, neckband, and soft neckband variants, with the suffix letter ‘e’ signifying a earbud wearing style, and ‘t’ for true wireless. Key features of the family include Jabra's own microphone technology for calls and voice interactions, as well as one-touch access and support for all major voice virtual assistants.

Wayne Lee, APAC Lead for Product Management and Alliance, Jabra, said that the new products address a number of pain points for time-poor, active people who want to use headsets for both voice and music, such as blocking out ambient noise; effective voice communications, durability and comfort. Chat apps such as WhatsApp and WeChat are particularly popular, he noted. Some 200 million WhatsApp messages are sent daily, while 84.5% of all WeChat messages are voice-based.

"The Elite range has the biggest choice of wearing styles," he said.

With the Elite range, headphone users no longer have to make a choice between great music headphones or a headset designed for voice and calls. All three of the new products are inspired by the best-selling Jabra Elite Sport, true wireless sports earbuds which set the standard for the Elite product suite with advanced audio technology.

Music streaming is a popular activity.
Each new Elite product contains unique microphone configurations to ensure users will always be heard, whether users are speaking to voice assistants such as Alexa or humans, both indoors or outside. The Elite series also features a one-touch access to all major voice assistants, and support customisation through the companion Jabra Sound+ app*.

The new products also come with a two-year warranty against dust and water ingress (the two years for the Elite Active 65t also includes sweat ingress).

At a glance:

Elite Active 65t

Engineered for active users who want a true wireless voice and music experience while working out. The Jabra Elite Active 65t is for those who want the features of the Elite 65t, while being able to use the earbuds in a sports or training setting. The earbuds have enhanced grip, through a special coating, an integrated accelerometer for tracking features and IP56 sweat, water and dust certification. The Elite Active 65t has five hours of listening time on one charge with two additional charges in the cradle.

Elite 65e

Designed for best-in-class wireless calls and music, and the top-of-the-line device for the Elite range. The Elite 65e provides two levels of noise cancellation, including Jabra’s leading active noise cancellation (ANC) solution. In addition, the Jabra Elite 65e offers premium conversation quality with three-microphone technology that creates a noise-blocking zone for added clarity.

Elite 45e

For the best all-round voice and music experience. The Elite 45e is for users who want the best combined voice and music experience in a headset with a discreet design and a great fit. This soft neckband headset has a lightweight form factor and a box microphone solution that delivers the clearest voice communication on any stereo wireless headphone. The neckband features memory wire.

Wireless and behind-the-neck headphones join noise-cancelling 1000X Sony family

 Noise cancellation1 in three headphone styles; new form factors in a truly wireless style and behind-the-neck join the around-ear style

 Sony | Headphones Connect app updated with the world’s first2 activity-recognising Adaptive Sound Control and Atmospheric Pressure Optimising features

 Adaptive Sound Control detects if users are stationary, walking or riding the bus, and automatically switches to preferred noise cancellation settings for that activity

 Atmospheric Pressure Optimising3 feature analyses the atmospheric pressure of your surroundings to optimise the headphones’ noise cancelling performance

Sony has launched three new variations of wireless headphones with noise cancellation technology in the 1000X series.

The star of the show is the WF-1000X, which is completely free of wires and fits snugly in the ear while incorporating noise cancelling technology4. The behind-the-neck style WI-1000X is designed for commuters, and the WH-1000XM2 headband-style premium noise cancellation headphones offer a deeper, longer listening experience and more options to tailor the sound to the environment.

Using the new "Sony | Headphones Connect” app5 with the new 1000X headphone series allows for more flexibility in customising the headphones. The world’s first activity recognition Adaptive Sound Control feature offers noise cancellation (NC) and ambient sound preferences to suit different environments. This smart listening experience is realised by Sony’s integrated SENSE ENGINEtechnology, designed to provide a personalised experience for all sound, including music and ambient sound, tailored to individual needs.

With the WH-1000XM2 and WI-1000X users also get the world’s first Atmospheric Pressure Optimising3 feature that uses sensors to detect the air pressure around the user and optimise the noise cancellation accordingly. Additionally, an equaliser7 allows further tailoring. These smart listening experiences are also realised by Sony’s SENSE ENGINE6.

Place the stylish WF-1000X buds comfortably in the ears and go. With a 6mm driver, the sound from these headphones is dynamic despite their miniscule size. As soon as they are taken from the case these headphones automatically power on and connect to the last device they were paired with. Charge the WF-1000X in the charging case to get up to nine hours8 of usage.

The WI-1000X brings functionality and class to your daily life through their intuitive design, including zip-style cable management and vibration alerts for incoming calls.

The hybrid driver unit with BA and 9mm dynamic driver brings the best sound quality to your ears with a multitude of other sound features such as High Resolution Audio, LDAC, DSEE HX and S-Master HX.

Benefitting from all the award-winning features of the MDR-1000X and bringing even more to the table, the WH-1000XM2 combines noise-cancelling technology with an Ambient Sound mode, Personal NC Optimiser and Quick Attention mode in this around-ear style.

For frequent flyers the new Atmospheric Pressure Optimising3 feature analyses the surrounding atmospheric pressure and improves noise cancellation performance9. Enhanced to last 40 hours with an audio cable, or 30 hours wirelessly, the Quick Charge function gains 70 mins of battery life with just 10 minutes of charging10.

The companion Sony | Headphones Connect app offers Sony smart features for adaptable listening, utilising the mobile device’s accelerometer sensor to detect activity and adjust music as well as sound settings to best suit the environment.

New Pioneer Z-Series receivers run smartphone apps in vehicles

Easy connectivity with Apple CarPlay, AppRadio Mode+, and Android Auto with the Pioneer AVH-Z5050BT multimedia receiver.
Source: Pioneer. Easy connectivity with Apple CarPlay, AppRadio Mode+, and Android Auto with the Pioneer AVH-Z5050BT multimedia receiver.

Pioneer Electronics Asia Centre, a specialist in aftermarket car audio, has announced four new multimedia receivers in Singapore.

Leading the 2017 lineup are the 1-DIN AVH-Z7050BT and 2-DIN AVH-Z5050BT, followed by the AVH-Z2050BT and AVH-Z1050DVD. In line with Pioneer's focus on enhancing user experience, the entire range offers even greater smartphone connectivity, a one-cable connection, and better audio-visual performance -- making Apple CarPlay*, Android Auto 2, and other premium entertainment features accessible to every driver.

"The world is more connected than ever. Together with the proliferation of smartphones and mobile internet across Southeast Asia, local drivers are expecting better seamless connectivity from their in-car infotainment systems," said Takao Chiba, Deputy GM of Business Planning and Marketing Division, Pioneer Electronics Asia Centre.

"The new Z-Series multimedia receivers were developed to meet consumers' evolving expectations of easier smartphone connectivity and superior audio/video performance. With that in mind, we have focused on both hardware and software upgrades to offer a complete and improved user experience."

Features in Pioneer's 2017 multimedia receivers include:

More smartphone connectivity options. All Bluetooth-ready Z-Series multimedia receivers can simultaneously connect up to five Bluetooth devices. Additionally, users can browse their media library with upgraded Bluetooth AVRCP 1.6 capability.

Enjoy a premium selection of mobile applications (apps), simply by connecting a smartphone to the head unit, via AppRadio Mode+, Pioneer's proprietary entertainment platform.

An example is Waze, the world's largest community-based traffic and navigation app. Viewing maps and directions from Waze is easier with the head units' larger touchscreen. Users can also play videos stored in a smartphone, as well as stream online videos via the AppRadio LIVE app.

Another highlight is Spotify3, currently available in Singapore, Malaysia, and the Philippines with more Southeast Asian countries in the pipeline4, which has a library of over 30 million titles5. This music-streaming app can be selected from the head unit's source list, and operated directly onscreen.

Connecting a smartphone to any one of the 2017 multimedia receivers is now a plug-and-play affair, as the head unit can automatically detect and retrieve the available content from the phone.

Operating the new multimedia receivers is now easier thanks to a new customisable graphical user interface. Key enhancements include easy device switching, icon display customisation, plus colour and design personalisation with 112 backlight illumination colours and seven background themes.

Pioneer is upping the ante by delivering a more cinematic entertainment experience for discerning movie lovers. The plug-and-play convenience extends to video playback, thanks to new full-HD (1080p) support for popular video file formats like MKV, as well as additional support for the NTFS format, giving users the flexibility to play clips that are larger than 4GB direct from portable hard disks. With a new and improved 24-bit true colour LCD screen, these receivers can reproduce up to 16,777,216 hues, or with around 256 times better colour fidelity than most regular displays.

To elevate the overall sound quality of these receivers, Pioneer has made refinements 'under the hood' with technologies and expertise from its TAD professional audio division. This includes a newly developed circuit board, which eliminates external interference to enhance audio signal integrity. Performance is further improved by leveraging audiophile-grade components for maximum listening pleasure. Lastly, all models are professionally tuned by Pioneer's sound engineers, in addition to the following audio-enhancement functions:

  • A 13-band graphic equaliser
  • Auto equaliser
  • Auto time alignment
  • Advanced sound retriever
  • 192kHz/24-bit FLAC file playback
  • Clearer hands-free voice calls via the implementation of wideband speech support for Bluetooth-enabled models.

Pioneer Electronics Asia Centre is the regional headquarters of Pioneer Corporation. Pioneer's core business is in car audio visual technology. Pioneer aims to be a leading aftermarket manufacturer and supplier to leading car brands, providing comprehensive infotainment solutions for in-car, by developing next-generation devices and innovative cloud services for the growing connected car market.
