Women in Business Asia Pageant organises digital marketing masterclass

As part of its initiative to help women entrepreneurs to skill up, Women in Business Asia Pageant is organising a masterclass in digital marketing and social media hacks for women entrepreneurs in Singapore.

The one-hour Digital Marketing and Social Media hacks for Women in Business session will show women in business how to create an optimal, business-friendly website that is focused on lead generation. They will also learn how to integrate content (both original and curated) in their marketing strategy. The session will also cover tips for creating a great brand video as well as deploying social media to proliferate messages to target audiences.

Organised by Event Embassy SG, the event features Dipashree Das as the speaker. Das has more than 13 years of experience in launching successful brands across Southeast Asia and in helping companies achieve marketing goals. She currently heads Regional Partnerships and Marketing for Singtel Media, based in Singapore.

Inspiring women in technology to share their stories at Cloud Expo Asia and Data Centre World, Hong Kong

CloserStill Media, which hosts business technology trade shows worldwide, recently formed a new initiative involving female technology expertise. The company will be hosting panel discussions between global women in technology as part of the initiative, and is inviting young and inspiring women in technology from around the globe to learn from and join in the discussion.

The next session is at the upcoming Cloud Expo Asia and Data Centre World in Hong Kong, taking place on 18 and 19 May 2016. Titled Women leaders in technology:– real life success stories and chaired by Stephen Lau, Distinguished Fellow and Secretary General (Honorary) - Hong Kong Computer Society (HKCS), the panellists include:

Susanna Shen, VP (IA) & Honorary Treasurer, HKCS and Head of Corporate IT, The Hong Kong and China Gas, who joined the HK and China Gas Company (Towngas) in 1988 and has held various management positions. The IT team under Susanna’s leadership is responsible for providing corporate IT services and solutions to support the business mission of Towngas and its subsidiaries consisting of over 120 joint ventures covering 20 provinces and municipalities.

Emily Chan, Director of Women & Youth Programmes, HKCS and CTO, West Kowloon Cultural District Authority (WKCDA), is responsible for driving WKCDA’s technology directions, guiding strategy planning, overseeing and monitoring the progress of IT initiatives implementation and ensuring their alignment with the business priorities in the WKCDA. She is a former Director of Business Technology at Hong Kong Disneyland.

Nicole Wong, Director of Women & Youth Programmes, HKCS and Assistant Systems Manager - Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO), The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSARG). She is responsible for project management, IT strategy development and providing IT advice to internal users. 

Dr Edith Mok, Distinguished Fellow, HKCS, was Pacific Area ITCS Director for The Dow Chemical Company, CIO of AT&T Asia Pacific, IT Service Director for the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), and Executive IT Director for the Hong Kong Jockey Club in 1980’s – 1997.

Singtel introduces hi!India plans in partnership with Airtel

Singtel has launched a partnership in Singapore with Airtel that enables Singtel prepaid mobile customers with smartphones to make high-quality calls to India via the Airtel Talk app.

Previously only accessible to credit card holders, Airtel Talk can now be utilised by Singtel prepaid mobile customers who purchase hi!India plans with their prepaid credits. Carried via normal IDD lines, Airtel Talk calls offer superior call quality.

Hi!India plans charge from S$5 for 100 minutes (S$0.05/min) to S$12 for 300 minutes (S$0.04/min). No extra costs are involved. All data charges are waived for customers connecting to Airtel Talk on a 3G or 4G connection.

“We are happy to team up with our regional mobile associate, Airtel, to develop hi!India Plans exclusive to Singtel prepaid mobile customers. There is a large population of migrant workers in Singapore and many of them come from India. We are excited to bring them greater value and new ways to stay connected with their loved ones. At such low rates, they can now call home more regularly,” said Singtel’s Consumer Singapore VP, Retail & Channel Sales Diana Chen.

Kickstarter focus: record direct from your phone to the computer

Recap S2 is a little device that attaches to a smartphone and saves a call to a computer or voice recorder, and its inventor hopes the world will fund its manufacture.

According to inventor Igor Ramos, Recap is easy to use as it works on any device with a combo port* and outputs into any with a standard stereo MIC port. 

"(A) Recap recording will be as good as the phone call quality," said Ramos on the Kickstarter page.
